    Fuck ACDSee

goddamned piece of shit takes ten fucking minutes to thumbnail one fucking directory. I don't remember it ever being that fucking slow before... but it seems to get slower now every day. I think it's because ACDSee stores everything in one big ass db instead of directory files like PSP7....

well it's fucking removal day. I'm going back to PSP7 for thumbnail viewing from now on. PSP7 auto-thumbnails the directorys as you go into them, but at like, 4000 times the speed of ACDSee.

But just out of curiousity, how's ThumbsPlus speed-wise? Anyone use it?

never used thumbsplus... always used arles to create thumbnail galleries. wouldn't trust anything else. ACDSee is way too slow for anything productive.

I'm not even using it to create thumb pages... I just need a solid and FAST viewer.... PSP7 works great, I don't know why I ever stopped using it in favor of ACDSee, but clearly it was a mistake.

Fucking ACDSee is so fucking slow it makes me wanna scream.

In ACDSee do you store the thumbnails, or does it regenerate each time?

it stores them and then only checks for updated files, so it only recreates a thumb if the file has been modified....

but generating new directory previews is just too fucking much.... it slows the whole system to a crawl and takes like, ten fucking minutes. I can't fucking sit through another one or I'll claw my eyes out. I've already blasted ACDSee out of here.

I thought I had tried it once too, but that was years ago... I'm sure they've updated since then. But that's okay... PSP7 is perfect... just needed a good stable viewer with the ability to dump the clipboard.

Thumbsplus is great, same as Thumbnailer, but if it's only for viewing, why don't you simply use the windows explorer view options or IrfanView (free and kicks ass)?

Windows Explorer is slow, plus you gotta opt for thumb view manually in every directory (or turn it on for all directories on the drive), plus it doesn't store them... it regenerates every time you visit a directory.

and I never heard of IrFanView...

plus I use PSP7 for lots of other stuff anyway....

it really only takes a second to right click and thumb the directory

and it does store the thumbs, once i thumb a directory it stays thumbed

i dunno your computer's speed but on my 2.4GHz P4 its very fast
but in PSP7, I can scan through, find a pic I wanna use, copy or open it, crop, rotate, all that shit... much faster than continually selecting View>Thumbnails for every directory and then opening the filename in a program I should be using already anyway.

                                                see what I mean? Inefficient.

ACDSee fucked me off to much. IT has a built in "Crash when Krome is in a really bad mood" function. The best program is a free program called "Pink Mouses Image Organiser".

Acdsee lost it after V3 - if you like PSP 7 try V8 with new scripting and stored crop values

It has the same database problem, which is made worse by the fact it doesn't automatically clean up deleted directories. With a little more development effort it could do the work of two or three applications.

It has the same database problem, which is made worse by the fact it doesn't automatically clean up deleted directories. With a little more development effort it could do the work of two or three applications.
Not so, it will automatically monitor file movements outside the program and automatically remove orphans if you set that option. Stupidly thats not the default behavior though. Thumbsplus should be due for a major upgrade soon, been at 5x for a long time.
The real problem with all these thumb/viewing progs is their weak file handling ability, no dual/triple pane view etc. I find myself switching back and forth between a viewer and file manager.
