How much Bandwidth do I need if I want to start a movie site and my daily visits are about 20K a/day?

It wont happen..with 30k of traffic and free movies...you will go broke.
youll have do what most the movie sites do...and host the movies on a Bootleg free server like Terra.es untill they cut you off. These movie guys spend most of their time creating new Terra accounts for their movies.
When I ran a 40k movie post, I had two 6mb movies each being downloaded about 3,000 times a day. As you can see...that could get very expensive.

Depends on the size of the files...
I offered two DivX clips on my site, 2 and 4 MB. in size. At a stable visitor count (10-20K pr. day) I set up a script to record downloads.
In just 4 days, the site transferred 114 GB.!
With Danish hosting plans, that costs somewhere in the area of $5000.
Look at the link sites, how many have +600 KB. clips - hosted on their own, paid bandwidth? Very few and I think I know why.

Exxxotica is right. the bandwidth is a bitch. i'm paying $2.75/gig (and $2.75/gig overage), and i'm still looking for cheaper prices.
let's say i was running that 40k site exxxotica spoke of, that would be $2,997.07 / month bandwidth on just the movies. if you chose 2 1 meg movies instead, it would be a little better at only $500 / month, but that's not including your site's bandwidth too.
i'm still looking into doing a legitamite movie site though, but it would never compare to 2 6 meg movies / day.

I think it's allright to give away some free movies...or at least small clips 1min or so....but man do these movie sites give away free porn. And they make it so easy to find free porn.
To boost my traffic, I somtimes use the link to my free movie...to a trade. It pisses the movie guys off.

Don't bring more misery to this industry. If you start a movie post, post movie links that are submitted to you.....not 2 - 5 meg movies files. Cause then your traffic will truly be shit. I agree with Mr. Mpeg..they belong on paysites.
Movie links will contain movies, but they'll be small and not sitting on your bandwidth. Plus the surfer has to join a paysite to see the better quality movies.
I'll never give away a free big movie on my site. And not giving away a big weekly movies has not hurt my traffic or my bookmark traffic at all.

My apologies....i just re-read your intial post and you said nothing about giving away free big movies like the other sites are doing. Your question about starting a movie site is no different then starting a TGP.
It's all links....unless ofcourse you were planing to post your own movies for download.
As far as bandwidth for a normal movies site that contains movies links, i'm really not sure. Not much at all though.
And if you were actually talking about posting your own big movies...well then GFY!

I've got an AVS site with all the movies on but they are all on free servers and keep getting deleted. Now I wanna start paying for my server and whould like to know how much bandwidth I will need. One cumpony told me that 25gigs will be enough, but I seriously doubt it!

My site is really similar to yours (we have a trade going...I run Exotic-Princess)
When you use a lot of thumbs on the main site, it eats badwith. My movie site uses about 100GB a month with 30k per day traffic. Thats with only a few galleries here and there.
Unless you use nothing but text links..which I hope you dont do...I like the way your site looks, 25gb of transfer wont do it for ya.

Yea! Thats what I thought, 25gigs just aint enough. It's hard to find a decent server that allowes Adult Content here where I live!
My FREE page is hosted with my isp and I never got any trouble about using to much bandwidth from them, it's only for my 2nd page "The Sexkey one"

you really need to rethink your server needs. The site only downloads around 12KB/sec which is fine for modem users, but it's the broadband customers that buy into the video sites, so if your sites slow they will bail on you.

Just curious...why would you have to use a server in S.Africa? You can host your sites from anywhere in the world.
As for the movies..all I know is I have them on my AVS sites and they kill me in bandwidth. When I get them back up (taking a break and revamping) I'm seriously considering cutting down and/or cutting them out.
Just make sure you get a plan with plenty of gigs included and the key is to find someone with a low overusage fee cuz it's real hard (or at least for me) to gauge what you need with movies and getting killed in overusage fees is what will do ya in.

i tried to download the full movie that ldinternet posted the url to and i couldn't get #71... did anyone else?
it's like getting warez. i don't think offer a full movie really hurts anything. for the most part it's just frustrating and doesn't work.
i do agree that free movie sites should only offer teaser movies. all free sites should be teasers only. you can't give people for free what they'll pay for... or they won't pay for it... unless paying for it makes it a lot easier to get.
