You would have to go all-in at least once to double your chips OR win the equivalent playing halfway decent hands. These tournaments usually get to level 12 or so when there's still 2 or 3 tables. 400/800 blinds will take you out pretty quick.
I've made it to the last 2 tables with 4k before, not bet once because I had shitty hands and barely made it to the final table because the blinds got to the 1000/2000 level with two tables left. That's rare in these games though. Maybe if we start getting 2 or 3 hundred people they will start going higher than level 16.
