But I think there is a better way to run these contests and to get better long-term results. For example, they could offer incentives to the ones that show improvements in sales or ratios or whatever. If a company told me that I could win something by improving sales by say 50% for 3 months then yeah, I might be inclined to try. If they were to say to me that I could win something by getting the most sales then I wouldn't even bother, partly because I would have no idea what that number would have to be and partly because I know that some people can just slap up a banner and get 50 sales a day.
You want an incentive to improve? Here are a couple:

1: More sales = more money.

2: If you continue to improve, perhaps one day you will win a 42" Plasma TV.

3: Create your own incentive plan. I have one. It's called retirement.
