So you want to get rid of George B-U-S-H?

This is your big chance to start the process of kicking Bush out if you are a citizen of the United States and over 18.

Democrats quarterly fundraising efforts are coming to a close for this quarter. Front runner status is often given to the 3 top fundraisers. This is your chance to make a difference with who you may want to be our next president :-) You can give as little as $25 to a candidate. A contribution must come from a personal account. I think this is an important opportunity.

The candidates sites where you can contribute in no particular order:

    Howard dean - deanforamerica.com
    John Kerry - johnkerry.com
    Joe Lieberman - joe2004.com
    Bob Graham - grahamforpresident.com
    Dick Gephardt - dickgephardt2004.com
    Dennis Kucinich - kucinich.net
    Al Sharpton - al2004.org
    John Edwards - johnedwards2004.com
    Carol Moseley Braun - moseley-braun.org

Good idea. Give lots of cash because we all know that the bigger wallet is the better president. Or should I say bigger marketing campaign ;)

As stupid as Bush is, you gotta admit that the Dems have shit all to offer in the way of a candidate that might have a chance of winning in the next election. They need an all-star and they don't have one. They need a JFK, but it just isn't there.

I don't think the Democrats could have done a worse job of coming up with a candidate, Bush is all but guaranteed a second-term unless they come with something QUICK.

Like I said, it's not like the Dems are just gonna pull a JFK out of their ass and float the guy through the election. 2004 will be a slaughter.

Dems are too losely spread out, They need to pull together and focus on this one.

Its going to be a long time to get out of the hole that we are in now here in the United States. Definately take more than just 1 president to make it right over time.

JFK wasn't the beloved candidate that most think. It was only *after* he became president that people really started to take to him.

Here's the popular vote tallies for that election:

When the votes were tallied in November,
Kennedy earned 49.7% of the popular vote to Nixon's 49.5%

The Presidential election of 1960 was the closest in American history. John F. Kennedy won the popular vote by a slim margin of approximately 100,000 votes. Richard Nixon won more individual states than Kennedy, but it was Kennedy who prevailed by winning key states with many electoral votes.

As a comparison Al Gore won the popular vote by 533,001 out of 105,365,816 total votes - despite losing the electoral vote.

Any one of the top tier candidates - Kerry, Dean, Edwards - have a serious chance if people stop whining to themselves and start getting involved - several polls now show B-u-s-h vs an unnamed democrat...yes it will probably take someone like FDR to fix the whole mess they're going to inherit, but any step in the left direction is better than four more years of b-u-s-h. I've seen the debates (which were pushed to suspiciously late hours in a couple of cases at least, or not even carried on network TV).

And I have to strongly disagree - this is the first group of politicians from the Dems side since Clinton who have strong presence and strong arguments. I saw Dean speak Monday, and it was so nice to hear thousands of people screaming "Get rid of B-u-s-h!" One of the best speeches I've seen...the crowd loved him. Kerry isn't as inspirational but he's also a very solid candidate, and Edwards when I've seen him comes across as a very personable guy with a lot of bright ideas.

The 2000 Selection we only had 51% voter turnout of everyone of voting age - 25% of the population old enough to vote didn't even register. If everyone votes, the government can be more representative. As Dean said - "You have the power to take America back." If you can't believe that, it's already lost.

Perhaps Dean or another strong candidate should get Hillary as a running mate, that would enhance boths chances of election

I don't think she will run. She made a commitment to NY to ride out her term. I think there'd be an awful lot of bitching if she didn't. Every quote i've read from her said she will absolutely not run for president or vice president if she were asked.

True, but that was then and this is now. People would never vote for a frog like Nixon again. We live in a pop-star age and JFK would sway the votes like a mofo if he were alive today.

they voted for "W" and Gore...both of which didn't exactly have a rockstar personality.

I was at the Dean rally for his official announcement. Believe it or not, there were people there who started crying when he showed up on stage.

John Kerry also strikes a chord I think with his history of heroism in the Vietnam war and his subsequent protests against it once he came home. A famous Kerry quote from when he testified before congress about the injustice of the Vietnam war in 1971:

"how do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Vietnam?"

I think most of the people who voted for Gore were really just clinton supporters trying to maintain the legacy. They voted for a Democrat more than they voted for Gore as an individual.

I've seen some people commenting that Dean - Graham combo could do wonders against Bush. One of the things people aren't able to estimate about Dean is his organization is very decentralized, mostly done through local groups organized over the internet, comparing him Carter and Clinton.

I don't care that Bush lost the popular vote. We have an electoral system for a reason, and its a good one. What bugs me is how he "won" the electoral vote.

As for the Democrat candidates, Howard Dean is the man. Very successful and well-liked governor of Vermont. He is young, he is liberal within reason, and as a doctor he understands health care. Could change the country for the better.

Every quote i've read from her said she will absolutely not run for president or vice president if she were asked.

I agree that the majority of what wins a presidential election these days is based more on looks and these two gender questions:

                                                                1) If I'm a female, would I let him buy me drinks and touch my monkey...

Well personally my favorite at this point is Dean - plus he has some positions that conservatives might find appealing (real Republicans)...and of course

"In addition, Governor Dean is deeply concerned by Bush Administration policies that threaten our basic civil liberties and the freedoms that we as Americans have fought so hard to protect throughout our history. When these freedoms are compromised in the name of homeland defense and fighting terrorism, it is clear that the terrorists have achieved part of their objective of forcing us to restrict our own freedoms. Governor Dean believes that the rule of law and due process must continue to be the hallmarks of our judicial system. As President, one of Governor Dean's top priorities would be to strike a balance in implementing his comprehensive homeland security plan while simultaneously ensuring protection of our basic civil liberties every step of the way."

Might also want to look at blogforamerica.com - his official "blog." He seems to have inspired a lot of people in rare way, and he's one of two candidates I am aware of who has made a comment about the supreme's decision to invalidate sodomy laws, the other, Lieberman, but Lieberman worries me because of his pro-censorship positions to Hollywood.

Perhaps a brainstorm might be good - one of Dean's big initiatives is to have communities organize to support him on a local level. You're right, here we have a huge community with a lot of financial muscle behind it. The three agenda items he lists as top priority:

1 Plan one Community Service Event per month that your chapter will participate in to aid community & raise Dean's local profile.
2 Brain storming to provide ideas to capture votes of the dissatisfied, but complacent & motivate them to the ballot box.
                                                                                      3 Organize a voter's registration drive

May be there is something very quiet we can do in this vein to get someone back in office who respects first amendment issues and won't use terrorism as an excuse to go after dissidents...suggestions? We've got to get rid of b-u-s-h.
