i'm almost sure we have done the same thoughts on this.

I'll analyze the current sex.com business model as I see it and state some facts. At the end I'll challenge the business minds of the rest :-)

If you examine the major traffic sources, you will notice they have moved from paid submissions/spots/impressions to pay per click model. It's only matter of time to see yahoo following this model as well. Personally I believe if it won't happen within the end of the year,it will happen in 2004.

But what makes these major companies switching to ppc model? Very simple, in the long run is the most profitable way of maximizing your profits and at the same time being able to have more than few active advertisers.

Internet traffic might look unlimited in your eyes, but in reality it's not. If you had $500k free money to spend on adult advertising in a month and turn a decent ROI, very very few would be in position to achieve it. Most will fail to even spend 1/10th of the amount.

PPC model "lives" from the money spent by the companies that are in position to move such amounts. Smaller advertisers are welcomed of course, but they are not their primary revenue vehicles. In the future, small advertisers will become fewer. Why? Because big advertisers buy EVERYTHING. Even 10% profit is good for them. How many of you spend money in this business to get back 10% profit? Give me a break. I have seen some of you crying because they lost $50 on their first attempt to bring profit from overture. PPC model has these big advertisers "fighting" for the traffic. Only them are in position to maximize the profits from sex.com traffic. From this procedure, in simple words sex.com gets the most $$.

                Other facts:

typein traffic through time decreases. Maybe not yet, but one day it will start. I don't have statistical data on this, but there's an obvious logic behind it.

"sex" keyword does NOT reflect 100% will to visit a porn site. "porn" does, "xxx" even better from my own experience. This is why in all ppc SEs, "sex" has lower bid than "porn" keyword. Sex.com gives the opportunity to the surfers to pick alternative categories like escorts, gambling sites and penis enlargement banners are there too. Their advertisments are geotargeted. This way they make them more user friendly to non english surfers which is a great plus. They have established some major traffic partnerships and they steadily INCREASE in volume. Quality of the traffic most probably drops because of this, but this doesnt mean it becomes less profitable for them.

We are in 2003 and not in 1997. Back then a banner farm would bring great income, today the SAME banner farm would not bring anything close to that amount. The business model that sex.com follows takes advantage of the typein traffic at the best possible way and at the same time it keeps increasing overall in volume terms.

Now here's your chance. What would YOU do to bring more money having sex.com in your hands? Can you convert 50+ niches better than the same companies that some day will be the only advertisers there for a minimal ROI? Some wouldn't even manage to bring $2k/day profit.

Hello Gary, do you feel like making a public apology to me for giving my private email to Serge? This is confucy. By the way, Serge and I made up.

Also, how about giving us some details regarding the settlement of the Carreon v Kremen lawsuit. You have been open in the past, so please give us some inside info.

And finally, I don't think you ever did a sex.com newsletter. You came very close, and I was going to do some of the writing. Care to give it a another try?
