    Mass refunds from Korean signups..?

ok, i'm pissed... woke up today to check the nights signups and rebills, only to find *4* refunds had to be issued in my slumber, all to korean account holders! now, i know some refunds are unavoidable when running paysites (and they are still preferable to chargebacks!), but this just seems strange to happen all at once like this, and all originating from the same locale.

this whole thing felt familiar too, so i checked last years records and saw that i did remember correctly; last summer i had another day w/ multiple korean refunds, all in one day... to add even more to my confusion, just a few minutes ago i received an email from one of the korean customers who was refunded today... inquiring why his password wasn't working!

is this something that the korean banking institutions themselves are instigating perhaps? i find that hard to believe, but am just totally confused about the whole situation... i am seriously considering blocking korean signups altogether, as i do not want to risk having a refund ratio too high overall. any input or experience from others here shed some light on this..?

ccBill, they can take korean-issued creditcards, along w/ the actual korean debit-cards that are so common over there..

update on this, and still wondering if any other paysite owners are seeing anything similar... as of today, we no longer have *any* current korean customers... the remaining few were all refunded simultaneously early this morning.

also, about half of the koreans that have been recently refunded have been emailing asking why their accounts no longer work, and i did converse w/ one of them (i can speak korean, and write a bit) just now; he insisted that he did not request a refund and still wanted access, and also stated that as of that moment he does not show on his online debit card account that he's even received a refund yet, and is angry to not have access...

now, i'm inclined to believe this guy since he is a regular customer to one of our sites, when i look back he has actually signed up for different length periods 6 times over the last couple of years w/out any trouble... are we seeing some strange action by the korean banking institutions themselves here?

is it time to block korean customers off altogether at the processor level now? i know it can be done (at least w/ ccBill), but i hate to lose that revenue... but, as it stands now, it seems we are going to lose any genuine korean revenue regardess... maybe the pinched economy in s. korea has their government-controlled banks trying to stop funds from leaving to country?! grasping at straws, but i am clueless on this one..

Here's the link to a piece of the article on AVN:

                      http://www.avn.com/articles/3413.html

The server the entire article is on isn't going through at the moment though.

It was something about them trying to block sites that market to Koreans using the language.

It's a bitch doing a search for porn/legal/korea google just pulls up all these damned porn sites

                        Dear Sirs,

We have a new interesting solution to convert South Korea Traffic. Korea is

world with 9/10 users using DSL. Our system is web paged based for DSL users

hmm... we do not have any korean language on our sites at all, the only thing i can think of that would relate to that is ccBills newer signup pages offering multi-lingual options... if you click on the appropriate flag at the top of the signup page you can get korean script, but i don't see this as being the same as entire pages targeted at korean-speaking surfers..

huh, now that i wasn't aware of... we've enjoyed decent business from korean signups for the last few years, they actually retain fairly well. i am still suspicious that these aren't like normal refunds, i've gotten too many emails from the users themselves immediately complaining of no access, i think there is something going on at a higher level where the korean business is concerned..
