Fletch, I don't want to deny an entire country, I love the USA.
But I don't think you can't compare cars with guns. The first function of a car is to drive, not to kill.
Don't you think we should do something about it? Do you think to young kids shooting each other at school is normal? Why are there more death by bullets in the US than in any ohter countries? Think about it.

It doesnt matter what you use.

Its a shallow assumption that to do away with guns would do away with murder.

Yes but last year there were more casualties by bullets in the US than in any other countries. You can commit crime with a pen but if a criminal can go at the corner of the street and buy a gun, I think he won't hesitate.

A friend argues that if there were to be zero guns in the USA the murder rate would drop. It is a fact that murders comitted by guns would drop and I suspect that the over all murder rate would drop by some percentage point...but I do not for an instant believe that the murder rate would decrease by a really significant percentage point...as the weapon of choice would simply become another object.Originally posted by Fletch XXX

I'm somewhat familiar with S.N. Goenka (sp?), he's been doing that for a while. He's done Vipassana courses in some northwestern US prisons with similar results.Originally posted by pimplink

Califronia went through a period of rehalbilitation for a significant number of years...more so in its minimum security units. It did not reduce recitivism and in fact if I recall correctly (and I may not) recitivism actually increased over these years.Originally posted by Fletch XXX

One of my friends who had been an electrician for a number of years at a California prison...acquired a degree and became an instructor at a prison...teaching an extensive course that would have allowed a graduate of the course to have an opportunity to become an electrician on the outside...which if you belong to the union is a good paying job...and still usually pays well even if you are not a member of the union.
After about 2 years of instructing he quit and went back to being an electrician. The reason he gave me for quitting as an instructor was because the inmates that took the course had zero interest in the course and were just putting in their time to look good for parole boards. He became frustrated with the inmates and their antics and reached the point where he could not tolerate it any longer.When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!

TheKing: As I said in my post about the Inmate Music Classes and Drum program with John Densmore and BB King I was blessed enough to be part of that Rehab lies within, thats with drugs, alcohol, or even criminals.
BB King and Johnny Cash have been entertaining criminals for 40 years, I wonder why?
So yeah if they don't want it, then they don't, but we should still offer the option.

I agree that just housing inmates...that are going to be released back into society is not a good idea...unless they are not going to be released until they are at least 35 or 40 because studies have shown that recitivism drops significantly after these ages and drops even more the older they become.Originally posted by Fletch XXX

ok i agree with the sentence in some ways,
but yet someone as dirty as a rapist or a molestor will not get even close to the same sentence,
they will undergo so much bullshit treatment and be realease within 180 days on parole,
this kid did alot of shit, tried to kill someone but i didnt.
i dont agree with wat he did just the system has alot of broken pieces.Comment
