Sammy Sosa Should Be Allowed To Use a Corked Bat: Affirmative Action

Why is everyone so upset that Sammy Sosa was using a corked bat? He should be allowed to use one. Just like the University of Michigan awards extra admissions points to minorities, so also should Major League Baseball give minorities any advantage they can.

He deserves some extra help in the batters box.

but it is a good point...so what everybody is basically saying is black folks dont need help in sports but they sure as hell need help when it comes to education...I DIDN'T SAY IT!

I agree,I can't argue the fact black people STILL have a slight disadvantage,but not like 30+ years ago... Affirmative action hasnt evolved a race either,the people have done it themselves...it's time to pull the plug on a few things

I've grew up with 3 out of every 4 people I meet is black and all of them either made it on their own or fucked up on their own...and the people who fucked up,didn't blame anybody for it or feel they were owed...

no offense to those who will read this but come the f**k on, slavery ended 130 years ago. rather then having marches or blaming others for not being able to tour on the pga, go do what you are best at and then make a claim.

i can appreciate anyone who screws up their own lives AND takes the blame themselves. to start pointing fingers to get the spotlight off your own fuckups is worse then making the mistake itself. i could have gotten a million grants for college but instead i took out a federal loan with citibank. i then proceeded to spend too much money shopping which caused the pay back of the loan to be a bit more difficult then anticipated. never once did i blame the people at the bank for giving me a loan, or a card to spend on or the university for not making it financially easier for me, a woman, to attend. i dealt with my own mistake and paid my debts.

actually, poor people grow up with a major disadvantage...

Checkout the stats(performance) of highschool in your country and you'll see school with rich kids at the top of the list and school regrouping poor kids at the very bottom of the list...

Yes they sometime need a little help... you create role models for the community etc...

As for comparing that to pro sports? please, pro sport = private companies,
if a black guy get some help for is University admission, thats one thing, but then it is now his responsibility to perform, since no company will hire him if is not competent enough...

when I used to deliver stuff in Bed Stuy, women would say "White Devil" and "Cracker" to me.

pretty fucking funny, since my families are Polish/Italian, both got off the boat after WWI, and were treated like dogshit. There's no old south white plantation owner blood in my veins. Hell, I'm part Sicilian - we might even be related LOL

im black, i dont like affermitive action, but then again some people need the little extra help, not all blacks want help they want to do it on their own. the night before list there was a debate on CNN with russel simmons and the black news anchor on that show and russel simmons put it like no one else could have. the media puts the black faces on tv, and just because that person expresses views that doesnt mean all blacks are the same.

shit ive got in alot of trouble, but i blamb myself, when i go try to get a job i dont say " fucking whites " i say " ima a fuckin dumb ass " for fucking up, and the way the system is set up, even if you do stupid shit nomatter what color you are, your still going to be fucked.

and shit, the last time i checked, blacks arr not really kicking up a fuss too much now adays about much, its mainly the latinos who want affermitive action, blacks as a whole dont want special treatment, all we want is the respect that we just like everyone else and can do shit just as good as anyone else.

they are not less qualified, just less fortunate...

crapy school system with bad teachers, uneducated parents that dont help you, surrended by violence , poverty (need to work major hours after school), being hungry at school, having 2 bothers in your bedroom, etc..

That affect your overall performance... which can be the difference between having an overall average of 60/100 instead of 70 or 75...

and btw, shitty lazy students from poor schools wont get a free pass... Only the best of them will

It's nice to see you have that attitude. You are correct, as a whole less and less people want affirmative action, but where I'm from it's still has much support. I'm just sick of seeing friends miss jobs because a company has to hire a set quota, etc. regardless of who is more qualified.
