Well Ive seen a whole show on how those crop circles can be hoaxed and it was pretty amazing... but I mean where did that first start.. do you think someone just said , I'm gonna go out to a field and make something look like its from outer space? I dont know... I think some are real.. especially once I saw this actual video footage on some program once and you could see these like miniature spaceships making actual crop circles within seconds while you watched and then it would take off .. it was pretty interesting.Originally posted by Pornkings

With the immense size of our universe, to think that we are alone in it would be EXTREMELY naive. That would be like planting an entire field of corn and only having one ear grow. The odds AGAINST that are absolutely astronomical. Whether or not we've seen them, they've come here, that kind of thing, I won't comment because frankly, I don't know.Comment

Of course they exist. They are a very advanced race, have limitless money to spend(about the cost of going to Mars) and can fly through space suspending time.
And who do they choose to talk to or kidnap for sexual experiments? Some potato or pig farmer from Idaho. Totally believable.Comment

In the case of corn, the likelihood of any one seed resulting in a plant is quite high. So far we've found plenty of planets (including extra-solar ones) but no indications of extra-terrestial life. We have no data that indicate that there is a high chance of life occuring at any point in the universe.Originally posted by LadyMischief

If you could look at another universe and NO life existed there, would you consider it astonishing, or would you just assume that no life existed there because it was inhospitable to life?
Your argument is based on an assumption that life is likely enough under the prevailing conditions in the universe that the size of the universe makes it unlikely that life exists only once. But we don't know what range of conditions life can exist in, which means we can't know what kinds of stars would be able to sustain livable planets, or even what would constitute a livable planet. Which means we can't even begin to get a proper estimate of how many livable planets exist.
And we have no data to tell us what percentage of livable planets may end up with life, or how likely it is that such life survives for an extended period of time, so we have even less chance of estimating the chance of life existing on another planet NOW as opposed to having existed or coming into existence at a point where the human species no longer exists.
Remember that because we can only observe from "within", that is, we can only see the universe we're in at a limited time period and observe from a specific location, our existence says nothing about the likelihood of life starting at any one location, or even the likelihood of life occurring at all. It could be ridiculously unlikely.
Or it could be so likely we'll find life almost wherever we go...
Thing is, we can't know.More traffic trades wanted (TGP, TGP2, CJ):

I look at it this way, our universe is just a fucking speck in the whole picture.. to believe that we are the only life form in the whole picture is naive as believing the adam and eve story in the "bible". If there is life form out there , they sure as hell dont want us earthilings to find their planet.. They probably like it the way it is and not destroyed (like we are doing to our own planet)

I've studied on this fascinating subject for many years.
Here's my conclusions.
I think they started coming here way, way back when we were still in the early ape stage. I think they bred with some of the apes. In the course of evolution I just can't see how we look and are today coming from apes without something external adding to the mixture in the process.
I think they started coming here in droves when we developed nuclear weapons in the 1940's and 1950's. The sightings skyrocketed then especially over the places where nukes were being developed, tested and deployed.
With the size of the universe, and taking into consideration all the basic building organic blocks got sent out everywhere when the big bang occured, statistically speaking, the probability is there are other human like species out there that developed albeit on different time lines.
What will we be like in 1 billion years at the rate technology is advancing? Any species that got started that time frame ahead of us surely will have figured out intergalatic space travel and/or time travel.
We are exploratory by nature. It would be safe to assume that all human like species in the universe have the same desire to go beyond their own solar system and see what else is out there.
I think a lot of the sightings might not be manned, but could be probes, just like we just sent out a probe to mars. This might explain why there has not been an abundance of contacts documented.
On the other side of things, the US Military has a lot of black projects and many of the sightings I'm sure are attributable to high tech aircraft being developed.
I do think there is the possibility that they are here in large numbers already either in deeply hidden bases or integrated into our society after years of breading.
Its impossible for me to look up at the sky at night and think we're IT out of all of that.Last edited by KRL; 06-19-2003, 07:15 AM.

I doubt aliens have been here. All the sightings and stuff is just government toys. They tested the blackbird and stealth for years before it went public. Who knows what else they tested in that time that they decided to shelf for one reason or another.
It is also possible at one time there was life on many of these planets but it died off. Humanoids have only been on earth for a very small percentage of its existance, and we might be gone in another thousand years.Ever notice that pretty much everything added to the Constitution after the original was a mistake.Comment

A) Technically UFO is any flying object you can't identify. Most times when I sneeze that happens.
B) I haven't slept since Wednesday mornign so I believe everything right now.
C) What was the question again?

Dude, I did professional UFO investigation shit for YEARS. I know all the researchers etc. There is so much shit it's overwhelming.
Yet my BEST suggestion is: Stay as far the fuck away from UFO shit as you can. You DON'T wanna know. Believe me, you DON'T wanna know.

I don't think it's naive at all. The classical argument is basically the Drake equation. Since there are billions of galaxies with billions of stars then even a very small probability of life multipliedOriginally posted by LadyMischief

by an immense number will lead one to conclude that there are a number of planets with life in the universe.
But Drake didn't know anything about what numbers to plug into his equation. For some yes, but not the important one; the probability of life appearing on a planet with particular qualities.
What if the probability of life appearing on a planet is very nearly
the same as the number of planets in the Universe? Since they are not related, that may very well be true or not true. If it is, the chances of life are nowhere near certain. Further it may even be that the odds are much less than that.
Since we know very little about how abiogenesis occurs and what has been speculated on leaves vanishingly small probabilities of it happening it may be that we are unique.
We have no information to even give us a clue. Our own appearance should not be viewed as necessarily normal because if there were life on only one planet capable of asking such questions it would be wondering just that (anthropic principle of some sort).
