Hana: 1/2-1 foot North shore: 2-3 feet...gradually dropping through Tuesday
Hookipa Beach Park: 1-3 feet...gradually dropping through Tuesday East shore: 1-2 feet
Kanaha Beach Park: 2 feet......gradually dropping through Tuesday West shore: 2 feet......gradually dropping through Tuesday
Kahului Harbor: 0-1 foot South shore: 1-2 feet
Kihei: 0-1 foot BIG ISLAND BEACHES

Maalaea Bay: 0-1 foot West side: 2 feet......gradually dropping through Tuesday
Lahaina: 0-1 foot South shore: 0-1 foot
Upper West side: 1-2 feet......gradually dropping through Tuesday North shore: 2-3 feet......gradually dropping through Tuesday
East shore: 0-1 foot or so

Surf Notes:

The juicy late season swell that brought large waves to the north and NW shores of the islands over the weekend, are on the decline now. This swell arrived very late in the season, generated by a deep winter-like storm in the NW Pacific...actually the combination of a low pressure system and a former typhoon that slid by to the east of Guam and Saipan in the western Pacific the previous week. The largest waves from this high surf episode that I heard about broke at Hookipa Beach Park here on Maui, topping out at somewhere near 8 feet or so! I wonder if it was a little larger at some other breaks around the state...like on Oahu? At any rate, this surf is still around Monday, but getter smaller quickly. The local buoy reports early Monday morning were reading only 5-6 feet, however the intervals between wave crests were still pretty long, at 10-13 seconds at the 4 a.m. hour. Today's weather map shows another much less intense storm to the NW of the state, with its associated fetch pointing towards the islands. It's central pressure is only 993 millibars, so that the winds aren't that strong rotating around it, although maybe it could bring us another bump around the Wednesday-Thursday time frame...small kine at best though.

Might be a good time to do some snorkeling. Molokini, perhaps, or any of those places out past Makena...

well, tomorrow might be a good day for your cruise to either Hana or Iao Valley.... I don't know what it's doing over on your side, but it's pouring over here right now. Iao & Hana Road are both notoriously wet anyway, so, no sunshine lost there...

plus, I got that new gear coming in Fedex tomorrow, so I need to stick around for that, (not to mention I gotta work).....

but gimme a call around the crack o' dawn or whenever you get up tomorrow, and we'll set something up....
if you're gonna do Hana, get up early and get going to beat the traffic.... stop in Paia and grab some breakfast at Charlie's around 7am....
