    When Will Designers Learn: Simple Galleries Convert Best

    Make it simple. The surfer doesn't care how cool your design is. This is one of my best converting galleries:

              You need to add some 1337 h4x0r DHTML and flash movies to that page. .
              SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

                          It's not all about conversions, though. I've made some galleries where the conversions aren't so hot but the enormous number of surfers pulled more than makes up for it.

                                      I agree that less is more. Some of my best converting galleries before I ever started building my own were Nasty Dollar galleries using their gallery builder.. You can't get any more plain than that but they converted damn well. I don't think it's so much the designer that is doing the graphics heavy flashy galleries I think that's more what the client wants. Usually those that don't or can't design opt to go for the really snazzy looks fantastic type of gallery and snub those that tend to make galleries a little less showy.

                                              I agree from my experiences, also if you are promoting a glamour type site I as a surfer wouldn't want a plain gallery.

                                                  LOOKS being the key word in that last sentence. How does it convert? I've had galleries like that created for my site. They converted worse than anything I've ever tried.

                                                                                      On my first AVS site I flew the same lame ass newbie gallery design, every fucking day, for 3 years straight. 2 text links, 2 lines of text, 16 pics, and 3-4 recips on top. Converted great. really graet. Sure the conversions went down over time, but never by much.

                                                                                      If I wasn't doing something more profitable now, I'd still be using it.

                                                                                          My worst converting gallery might do better than your best converting gallery.
                                                                                          Just because its "your" best doesn't mean its "the" best.

                                                                                          And the gallery you posted has 16 pics and 7 sponsor links, it'd be kinda hard not to get clicks off of that, of course getting it listed and getting traffic to it is another story.

Unfortunately in life this is not always the case.

                                                                                                      I think content is king, designers thinks design is, some think it's the concept of a site, a lot think traffic is.

                                                                                                      Is this because the only way they can effect the the maount they earn is by improving what they are good at and ignotre the things they are weak at.

                                                                                                      Design is important, but remember the guy with his CC out also has his dick out. So is he looking at the pretty logo and background or the chicks?

                                                                                                      Traffic is important, but no matter how much you drive pass a pieca of shit it still stinks.

                                                                                                      The concept is important, but you have to have the ability to present it in the right way so people understand it.

                                                                                                      Content is important, but if no one sees it, who knows about it.

                                                                                                      Everything is important, it's getting the right mix that matters.

                                                                                                                                                          I believe that if a designer has a balanced work load, with some creative work and some more ?simpler? work he/she does a better job. Designers are by nature creative people and want to show it, therefore if they get a project they want to show their creative abilities. If at all possible, giving them 2 kinds of project is the best, such as TGP galleries and a new layout for the corporate web site. Just my thoughts.

I took a LOT of heat for that gallery from the people on this board because I sent it to The Hun and got accepted. The Hun saw me getting chewed up here and emailed me personally asking about my conversions off of his traffic.

                                                                                                                                                                                      Since then, because of people like you that ripped on me, he's listed my galleries almost EVERY SINGLE DAY.

So many critizie about having fancy stuff... but amateur starts amateur its not static it growsssss... If you don't have the fancy stuff etc... some think you suck....
