A friend of mine owns many "similar domains" in which he uses to send traffic to that sponsor. He also sends the sponsor good traffic from other sources.
If that particular sponsor decided to fuck with him, they would be out of a lot of joins and would have a new very disgruntled ex-affiliate.
One of his sponsors actually wanted one of his domains at one point. They could have easily taken him to court and attempted to get the domain back. The next day he had a 5-digit wire sitting in his bank account. To this day he's still sending new joins.

If for example the guy with VoyeurDorms.com also has a high end domain like Voyeur.com that is feeding traffic to VoyeurDorms.com and then off to VoyeurDorm.com's signup site, a smart company would say cool no problem lets make some money together.
