i'd suggest borrowing from a friend if at all possible. there are a lot of boards out there now. i'm partial to Burton.

what size are your feet? basically, are they size 12+, or smaller than than that?

the easiest boards to learn on are the all-around boards. i like the Burton Custom/Canyon as a good all around board to get your feet wet with...
