I hope he does stay healthy for sure. Well on the phinz because we have Zach it should help him because he doesnt have to be the main man. Half the time Zach will be beating him to the tackle anyways. Seau in 13 years has only missed like 6 games or something unreal like that.. I expect him to come with a vengance this year

Mike - Kobe is an awesome player. One of the best for sure. But I don't see how he inspires his team. He inspires crowds for sure, he puts on a great show, and he's a major talent. But I don't see raising the game of the other people on his team. Up until the last year or two he didn't even get along with Shaq well - the two of them were dishing it out to prove who is most valuable to the Lakers. Thats not team spirity...thats personal pride. Kobe is learning to tuck his ego in a bit, and I'm sure that will help him achieve MVP status in the near future. MVP is a team thing not best player in the league thing.
And I never said Kobe was at fault for the Lakers losing. It has a lot more to do with his supporting cast....
As for the Grizzlies, they are doing better in Memphis then they ever did before. I can't make excuses for Stu Jackson being a fucknut. He still makes stupid decisions only they impact the entire league now. How could he pass on drafting Kobe, Vince Carter, and Steve Nash (who's from this part of the country) to choose a useless slob like big country? And then insist on building the team around him. The NBA should send us an apology for allowing Stu Jackson to even have been in Vancouver...Comment

I think one thing many people are over looking when it comes to Kobe is his age. Here is a kid that is 24 years old. 3 rings and looking for more. Gets better and better on a yearly basis. Busts his ass in the off season to put on weight (muscle weight that is) so he can take hits and be a better all around player. Here is a guy that is younger than Jordan was when he one his first Championship. Does Kobe still have more maturing to do.. SURE! He learns more and more each year. So the kid is a bit of a loner. But he has had to be, he has been above and beyond better than anyone he has played with since he was a kid. Always playing with the bigger kids and schooling them too. He will continue to learn. I agree slightly that he has a hard time motivating his teamate and making them better. At times he will take a good defender as a personal challenge and try and beat the guy all by himself. And then at other times he can run the offense dish and make the entire team look like they are the most amazing thing since sliced bread. That is all maturity. As he learns more and more you will see he play full games and full seasons making his team looking amazing! And he will have his handful of MVP's and Championship Rings long after Shaq has retired. I think Shaq is a great player one of the best ever. But it may be time to move him along and go get some supporting cast members that are worth a damn and give Kobe the money he deserves.No OneComment

on the "motivating" teammates thing:
yes it's important for an MVP to make his teammates better ... but does that mean he needs to motivate them? ... you can be the most juiced-up motivated baller out there... but if you got the hands of Samaki walker or the Jumper of J-kidd ... you wont be able to do didley-squat... my point being, kobe creates open shots for all his teammates... but he doesnt get the credit of making them "look" better because they dont make any of em. ... that's why he's not getting the MVP status he deserves.
another point on "motivating" ... the greatest baller of them all... MJ himself was all "MVP" everything... but did he do a great job of motivating? ... not likely... in the past, Ho Grant used to bitch about how MJ would always criticize him... to the point where Grant was so relieved when he left for Orlando. ... and MJ's latest team? ... pretty much all of the wizards wanted MJ out the door... not much of a motivator huh? ... the difference is... when MJ was in chicago .. he had pple around him who made shots!! Pax was money, Kerr was money.. Hodges was money... Kukoc was clutch... Kobe's got a bunch of stiffs around him.... and it doesnt help that Horry has been attending "JKidd's summer school of Jumpshooting".
.. and on Duncan... just like someone said earlier... he's always been criticized for being too low-key... not outspoken enough to motivate his teammates.
so kobe may not appear to "motivate" the players around him... but the more important thing is making it easier for the players around him to score... that one ability is the same quality MJ had, the same thing Tuncan provides for his teammates.... the only difference is.. kobe's role-players havent produced like MJ's or Duncan's.
at the beginning of the season when the lakers were playing like shit... i had thought that if kobe could will the lakers into getting 50 wins.. out of this embarassing (at that time) season... then he deserved the MVP.

I cant believe Kobe brought them back like that. He hit some huge shots!
Wow I thought Horry was going to pull it off again. That was so deep in the toilet I cant believe it came out. I was ready to flush the win. Horry is 2 for 35 3's in the playoffs. 0 for 15 this series. Man it would help if he would get his shot back.
What sucks is I think Kobe could have got the 3 shot foul on that play. But because he got robbed only a few minutes before on that bad call for the same thing he was hesitant and passed it to Horry which really wasnt a bad move condidering the way the refs were calling the game and Horrys history.
Why did we take out Pargo and Medvedenko and put Horry and Fisher in for the last minute when it was Pargo and Medvendenko along with Kobe who brought them back? Not sure I agreed with that.
Anyways I think we installed the fear into San Antonio after that game. I also think even though we lost we gained a huge amount of momentum that we'll take into the next two games. I think barring a ton of bad calls the Lakers are going to pull this thing out!

sad game.... but .. let's face it... this squad is pretty much the same squad as the first one 4 yrs ago... the lakers werent even a "young" team back them... makin them foggies now...
every year their margin of error got more slim... and add to that, the fact that every other contending team around them got better....
..so add those 2 facts together and... the result of last night's game was inevitable...
sucks, but... maybe this will wake up freakin mitch kupchak...
afterthoughts:
1) dang.. they really missed the toughness of Foxy... not to mention the 3pt shots.
2) their doomed fate was sealed when George went down as well... making what was already a weak bench.. even worst.
3) for the offseason.. they need a legit PF.. one with a mean streak that wont take shit from any of the elite PFs in the west (just seeing Horry get worked over n over n over... was so frustrating... ) ... Malone wouldnt be so bad of an idea.. even though he's only got at best 2yrs left. ... he's tough, he's smart, duncan or Cwebb wont be able to back him down, he gets the respect from the refs... and hell.. he can stick the open J.
4) Lakers will be back in the same boat next year.. if shaq continues to slack in the offseason... his weight may not hurt him as much on the offensive side... but that fat ass of his makes his Defense almost non-existent...
... when you build your whole squad around a guy... and he starts slackin? it's inevitable for things not to work out..... like the days when Kareem was gettin old.. and they switched it to Magic's team... i think that's what they need to do now.... it's time to tool the new team around Kobe... cuz shaq aint cuttin it anymore.
