I've never heard of doing it with a blowtorch...that's fucking hardcore, man. I *have* heard of doing it by having more than one tongue piercing and then tying off the flesh in between the piercings with fishing line, gradually tightening it until you've cut through, and then repeating the process until you get a full split.
That said, I'm perfectly happy with my 8ga tongue piercing.
