                    It all depends on why the buyer wants it. I sold a domain 4 years ago that was a two worder but had no meaning to anyone other than it was the name for one of my telecom businesses. One day I got an e-mail from a guy who said he would pay me any price I wanted. I thought he was just a joker. But I threw him a way overpriced number and he sent back an e-mail "deal". I was surprised when the bank wire came in so fast and realized ok I'm seriously missing something here.

                    I later discovered he was a front agent for a big insurance company in Europe that had a division with that name.

                    I could have probably asked many times what I sold it for and gotten it.

                        personally, i wouldn't spend 10 cents over the registration fee, for any domain, with a few notable exceptions (of course). this doesn't mean i think the domain selling business is worthless - it just means i don't look at the letters of a particular domain from the same angle as others might.

                        i believe i could take almost any domain, and make it (relatively) huge.

                        i built a multi-million dollar/year business with a huge profit margin, from a handful of domains i registered simply because i thought they sounded cool.

                                Very good point quiet. I'm totally amazed at how many domains people are letting expire. I've been buying at least a couple every day. A lot of those with good development potential cause like you said they have the ring to them.

She makes around $8000 a month every month with those banner farm pages,lol doing no work. I guess domains arent worth shit when they bring you $96,000 or so with no work. We'll be conservative and say she makes about $5000 a month $60,000 a year with no work is still awesome. Imagine if you changed all those sites and made paysites for each niche how much more you would make. I agree that any name should only be worth $8. Something that you can't pick up, feel, smell, taste that can sell for half a million dollars?lol All this shit probably started from a poor bum fuck who wanted to see if someone would buy his name for a ridiculous amount. He caught a sucker and then word got out and and the domain name aftermarket started,lol Because you know back in 99 you could brand a domain very quickly so who cared about buying domains. You could get your site listed in yahoo quicker then you bust a nut
                                    Now that advertising is much harder with paid submissions, ppc, all that shit, people just want easy guaranteed type-in traffic.

                                    Well there is very much an after market for domains and ive sold many. People are willing to pay substantial amounts others are not.

                                                                                                                                        Eddie, one piece of advice, and you can take it or not, around here if you are selling something, though many of us do joke around more than we should, it is important to remain fairly professional or you'll scare off any potential buyers of whatever it is you are selling.
