Why?

If you can provide good enough service to get word of mouth recommendations, you don't need a 10k domain because you can brand a $15 ?????host.com domain just as well (sinhost, candidhosting, natnet etc.). If you can't provide the service, a 10k name ain't gonna help.

Hey I think eddy just meant that big buys with domains do happen all the time. They just aren't always big news anymore. A $200,000 offer for 3,000 domains isn't that unrealistic. He didn't say these 2 names had a $200k offer though, as far as I've seen.

I have friends who still spend 5-6 figs on some domain names. It's all about what that piece of real estate is worth to that buyer.

Buyers dont go, ooh this guy paid 4 million for his name so im going to pay 4 million for this one. Newzeland.com recently sold for $500,000 and hostels.com sold for between 4mill+ thats unconfirmed but look around youll find info on that sale. The girl who owned the names with 3,000 uniques a day was offered $200,000 and look she has a list of them right here. www.ebess.com and look at her shitty sites full of banners and popups. Yet she makes $8,000 a month doing nothing. Go look. She turned down his offer because she can make $200,000 in a couple years and for the rest of her life as long the net is here.

Yes, but you still haven't addressed how a dead man will legally transfer his domains?

Escrow and a contract will certainly be involved if the domain is to be sold for over 10k.

How does this happen when the registrant is dead? Joker style? "Saw him reach up, with his own dead hand, and sign it.. with this very pen".

in all my years of buying and selling domains, I have never once had to use escrow, ever.

When selling, I simply fax over 1 of our standard purchase agreements, wire comes in the next day, domain is transfered within 5-10 minutes.

If you know who you are dealing with it's not a problem.

when selling I don't really care who signs to be ohnest. If the wire transfer comes in that day, next day or whatever, they domain is transfered, not mine anymore.

If buying, I care some, but if it's not stolen, and the person I buy it from can approve a transfer or give me user/pass for the domain, I am not too worried either. If it's not stolen, and I can transfer or get access, no worries then.
