Several years ago, my girlfriend worked at the Ruth's Chris here in Cleveland. I took her there for Valentine's day this year and it sucked. They've really gone downhill out here. From now on, it's Morton's and the Jim's Steak House. The most famous person you're likely to see at Ruth's Chris out here is John Lanigan, a local radio star.

What did you eat ?
I had a T-Bone, potato, mushrooms and a salad. The food sucked, the atmosphere sucked and the service sucked. The manager came over and gave us a $25 gift certificate. The experience was so shitty, I gave the gift certificate away because I didn't want to go back even if it was free. The whole meal should have been on the house, anyway. They did absolutely nothing right.
I spent $200 on an experience that was crappier than a $30 trip to the Outback.

A good friend of mine knows someone who picked up a couple that were broken down in their car late at night between Grants Pass and Medford, Or.. It was raining out, and the couple needed help.. He picked them up, took them to the nearest service station to so they could get a tow and a place to stay for the night. They asked if the guy could give them his name and phone number, so they could thank him later, and let him know they made it to their destination safely.. They never called I guess..Originally posted by Triple 6

But a few weeks later he recieved notice from a secretary or something that the couple he picked up was Bill Gates and his wife. Supposedly Bill did a bunch of checking up on who this guy was.. and he was told that because of his kindness for pulling over to help two complete strangers and not even caring about who it was or where they were going he gave a check to pay for his daughters full college tuition.
Im not sure if its true, but he says its not bullshit.. And I trust the guy..

I get it from Andronico's (gourmet supermarket) here for about $25/lb. I think I prefer the Ribeye's, but the first kobe beef I ever had was a filet mignon. It was almost of the consistency and texture you'd expect from braised foie gras... amazing stuff.Originally posted by Brujah

Its halfway believable because its Bill Gates. He gives away several hundred million dollars a year to various foundations, colleges and other worthy causes. I wouldn't be too surprised to hear he'd footed the bill for someones college education on a whim.Originally posted by SpaceAce

Keep in mind that those are not completely altruistic acts. When you pay as much in taxes as someone like Bill does, charitable donations are a must. There are no billionares that don't give money away as far as I know.Originally posted by Gutterboy

You're either a cheapskate asshole or from a country where servers actually get paid to do their job. In the USA, $2.13/hour is the pay most waiters and waitresses get. If you don't tip them, they can't pay their bills. If they can't pay their bills as waiters and waitresses, they will stop being waiters and waitresses. If we don't have waiters and waitresses, everyone gets stuck cooking their own meals and no one wants that, right?Originally posted by DirtyRider

They save money on their taxes giving to charity, the same way I save money on my taxes deducting my office expenses. It doesn't mean that I am actually saving money when I buy a new computer. It just means that I get to pay a bit less in taxes because I spent the money on something productive. If a man is a billionaire, he can afford to give money away where he perceives a need, but that doesn't make it not a good and giving thing that he does.Comment

Does your friend also know someone who had an organ stolen by organ thieves, and woke up in a bathtub full of ice with a note telling him to get to a hospital immediately? He probably also knew someone who was killed by gangbangers for flashing his headlights at them.Originally posted by media

I seem to have missed your point. Salaried server jobs basically don't exist, here, so it's tips or nothing. It would be nice if every retaraunt owner suddenly decided to pay a decent wage to their waitstaff, but it isn't going to happen.Originally posted by Jimbo

WHHHHY?
I think Amelia was pretty clear. Charitable donations don't help him in any way. Otherwise, explain me how $0 is better than 50% of 1 million."There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Theirs one big difference in the way Bill Gates donates money. He donates it to th William Gates Foundation. (his own) That buys computers for the underpriviliged. Which in the long run gets him more money. If you break down how much mony he makes a year to the seconed.. Its $40,000 a seconed.. Of course that is easy enough to cover somenes whole college educaton..Comment

Hey All!
In the early '90's (when I was just a baby). I was in, I think it was NY doing Unix Expo. Exhausted, from working the booth and having back to back meetings for G-d knows how many days.....I went to take a break at the little snack area they set up inside the show.
In line, this really goofy looking guy started a conversation with me. Now, granted, people kept coming over and making comments to him, however, I was so exhausted, they could have been reporting the winning number for the lottery and I wouldn't have picked up on it.....
Long story short, it was Bill Gates. I was polite in line to him if not solicitous (I hate rude people). To my chagrin, he sat with me during lunch. He was very nice, if not remarkable. He had heard of my company which perked my ears up. That was it....On my way back to the booth, one of my partners passed me as I was leaving the snack area. Later he interogated me on the meeting I had with Bill Gates.....
I never laughed so hard in my life!Comment
