I Imagine at only 7000 feet, lots of people lasted till they hit the ground. daamn
Don't most die from heart attacks before hitting the ground...
I remember hearing about that...it causes such stress that they die before hitting the ground...
Dying in a plane crashes isn't that bad...if you don't know you're about to die...hitting the side of a mountain...gone before you knew it
- 7,000 feet MSL is not that high up. The planes pressurization system would not even have been activated as it does not engage until the plane exceeds 10,000 feet (sometimes 12,000 feet). Skydivers routinely jump out of perfectly good airplanes at altitudes of 10K to 12K feet and there is no decompression of the cabin when they open the door.
- Even at an altitude of 16,000 feet MSL or higher there is no danger of 'explosive decompression' that would result in 200 passengers and their baggage being completely sucked out of the passenger compartment. At most one or two people not buckled into their seats, in close proximity (like 5 or 6 ft from the opening) *might* get sucked out. The rest would merely lapse into peaceful slumber due to mild asphixia (sp?) in about 30seconds, and upon returning to an altitude of 10,000ft MSL or lower would wake up with bad hair and a headache.
