Justification for the Iraq war!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Halliburton (HAL.N), the oil giant once run by Vice President Dick Cheney, appears to have been given a bigger role in rebuilding Iraq's oil industry, according to letters between the U.S. military and Congress.

In a letter sent on Tuesday to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, California Rep. Henry Waxman, a Democrat, raised questions about the contract awarded without competition to a Halliburton subsidiary, Kellogg Brown and Root.

When I need something done, I like to pick up the phone and contact someone I know I can work with. It's the same case here. Something needed to be done - quickly and correctly - and they called a company that they already knew could handle it.

Haliburton isn't an oil giant, it is a oil field equipment developer. It is small potatoes. People... you are dumb... do you think the USA would spend over $100 billion in a war for a country that has maybe some $100 billion in oil reserves... I wouldn't go as far as to say that oil was a REASON to invade Iraq, it was just a happy bonus. I think the people in power sincerely believe they have made the American people safer by invading Iraq, and that the costs of their liberties is a small price to pay.

That just makes me question the intelligence and beliefs of the people in power.

Hmmmm actually I have always required any contractor to guarantee a delivery price and completion date. At one point in my life I own a small master franchise license which required me to build several retail locations at the same time so I am quite familiar with the process. At no time would I have ever allow a 50 times overbudget as you are supposing.

FYI, Haliburton wasn't the lowest bidder. In fact, the bidding process was not public which I do have issues with...

As a PoliSci major I learned a long time ago to not see the world as black and white. I am in favor of the current Bush foreign policy... just happen to think that the bidding process for parts of the reconstruction of Iraq could have been public without worrying about national security.
