In the UK these have been big problems with Dell.

The main reason for this is that they moved there call centre to India, and many people have had problems when they need technical advise. Dell have said they will improve on this, but it looked bad for them.

It was on UK BBC2 'Watchdog' a week or so ago.

But if she is only using it for word processing, I would be tempted to opt for a second hand laptop, or a hand held.

I found a hand held was far more use than a laptop as I took it all over (just fit in my pocket). It was great taking it to the library and on the train. Sure laptops or portable, but they are still bulky and batteries are not as good - plus more chance of being stolen.

All I did then was transfer my work to a pc, and tidied it up a bit before printing it out.

But I would think a cheap lap top (second hand) would be more use, and if it got broke or stolen (as long as her work was backed up), its not a big problem.

I have seen in the UK P133 going for £100, and even better, they are usually full of software too.
