I went to India in the 70's and to this day I still see in front of me how they blinded a baby to make more money as beggars. Other 3rd world countries have huge Children Prostitution Trades, Child Labor, disfigure children, like DirtyWhiteBoy said above. I saw it and I don't think I will ever forget the 2 years I spend with Green Peace in 3 rd world countries.
We were young and in la la land, thinking we could help those families out, bringing food and teaching them to survive. We left (some of my friends came back later as doctors and nurses to volunteer) with the knowledge that these countries are so poor, they rich get richer.
We had to pay a fee just to give those kids clothing, shelter and medicine. It was the most nerve wrecking time in my life.
Yes America is very sheltered. How can you stop it? Unless you remove the top layer you can't
