SWOIT spammed my 10 year old daughter!!!!

$15 gets you an account to report unlimited spam to www.spamcop.net.

They do he research on their servers and send out the abuse reports for you. They process tons of spam per hour.

I've also been running McAfffee's Spamkiller Pro, you can setup custom filters and greatly reduce the same that actualy makes it to your PC. It'll check your POP mail and weed out stuff every XXmns if you want.

There are other programs that do this as well, most you have to pay for, some even work with AOL.

I have been filtering all my mail through spamcop.net, but unfortunadely i can't get my hotmail to forward to that account, than they re-direct it back to you. You can still access the messages it catches, as you need to manually send the reports in.

Maybe I'm just a technical idiot, but how could it be inconceivable? For all intents and purposes, I could join up for a pornsite right now using your daughter's email address. And it would show an IP that's different from yours, which is what happened.

I get emails all the time from typos. I get emails from TGP's and linklists for submissions because other adult webmasters have typo'd their OWN email address - missed a letter, a dash, etc., and the typo is MY email address. Not to mention that many people just MAKE UP email addresses for pornsite.

As a parent, I understand why you're upset, but as a webmaster, I can certainly see how someone you don't even know could have put your daughter's email address on the form.

How exactly is it not a good idea for FT to SCREEN her daughter's e-mail before she even reads it? That is what she was doing and how she found the fucking e-mail. IMO that is the best way to filter what her daughter sees in her e-mail, as opposed to relying on software that can be circumvented. So, maybe you should get a grip?!

Temptress.. someone using a different computer than yours (explaining the different IP address) signed up for one of their sites using your daughter's email address. They didn't lie about this, the facts support this.

Mr Swoit.. to avoid this in the future, you should make your lists double opt in. A customer backs out of a sale, fine, send them some sort of a confirmation email so that you know the person who put in that address is located at that address. Seems simple to me.

We brought these details to light both publically and privately to you in an attempt to confirm that the email did legitimately come from us, and the source of the address. We of course do not condone the emailing of minors, and would never willingly do so. The email address in question was submitted to us as part of a regular signup process.

(Background: Our company engages in the practice of emailing people who attempt to sign up to our sites with offers and specials, a few weeks after their attempt has been deemed unsuccessful. It is a very common and legal practice)


However Melody you continued to slander my company in all of the above forums. You accused me of "lying" and "covering
up" the truth. The only mass email that was ever sent out was for our Launch, and this was done through a company we contracted in Europe on our behalf.

You also performed the following actions as per your own admittance :

1. Filed a complaint with spamcop
2. Filed a complaint with Verio, an upstream bandiwdth provider for our server infrastructure.

This is a matter which should have been handeled in private, however because this was brought up so publically, it has now done irreperable damage to my companys name and reputation.

While i understand your viewpoint and would also be upset if my child received an email as such, the way you have handled the situation and defamed my company in unacceptable.

I would at this stage ask that you make a public apology saying that all issues have been resolved and you understand that, while the email may have been unfortunate, it is through no fault of Swoit that your daughters email was obtained.

I have BCC'd my legal counsel on this matter and will liase with them Monday on any further action.

BUT, when they click on this button THEY ARE NOT A MEMBER YET. They have NOT entered in any billing info to join yet, therefore you have NO WAY of know if they are of legal age. They have only entered in
Username, password, email address, name, county, state, zip code and membership type..
Point number 14 - again you have now way of knowing they are of legal age because no billing info has been entered.
Now IF they go to the next page and do submit billing info -
Then I ask where are the last 4 digits for the credit card or checking account number. You didnt supply this info...I wonder why?
So then, this would mean the person didnt supply credit card or checking account info. And you spammed a person that you didnt know for sure was of legal age to receive such spam.
Now, if they did supply credit card or checking account info I would like to be supplied with the last 4 digits of the credit card or checking account AND I would like to see your stats for this site to see how often the site was accessed by the so called member.
My educated guess here is that no billing info was supplied and you spammed a person that you did not know if they were of legal age.
