its easier to open the thread in the same window and just click the fucking around and program discussion link which takes you back to the refreshed index.

That is way too slow, wasting too much time waiting for page loads..
I go to the threads index, I hold down shift and start clicking on threads that seem interesting. I open like 5-10 of them.. Then I start checking them out one by one, by that time they are all loaded already, so I dont need to wait.
One thing I really would like is if they turned on the feature where the thread icon has a little black dot in the middle if you have any posts in it. I cant always remember which threads i posted to.
Another tip for GFY junkies: Go to search and put your nickname in the search field. This way you can easily find who has quoted any of your posts and posted something in response. (because your nickname is in the post as 'Originally Posted by Nickname, which gets picked up by the search)
Two reasons why:
It's much faster
and the main index doesn't refresh.
GFY threads move so fast that you can miss alot if the index is refreshed everytime you return from a thread.
After I read or reply to the threads I wanted to, then I refresh.
I do not open threads in a new window, but when i am searching something or reading news I always open in a new window. Btw, you can set google to open the serach results in a new window.
Do you guys know if it is possible to configure thumb button of a mouse to open links in new window. Right now, my thumb button is set to "back"... Like when you click on it, It always opens the links in new window... That would be really cool...

yup, always do. I go down page one and open all the threads that sound interesting in their own windows and work my way through them. Then it is time for page two.
actually I tend to have thousands of windows open. It seems easier to be able to keep going back to them...but then you end up in the situation where you are going through all the windows looking for one certain one and...well life just seems to get annoying...
