Boy knifes friend to avoid 'lonely' suicide
A suicidal high school boy has been arrested for knifing his friend because he didn't want to die alone, police said Thursday.
"I planned to commit suicide because I was disgusted with everything," police quoted the 16-year-old boy as saying. "But the idea of dying by myself made me feel lonely."
The boy sneaked into his friend's home in the Tokyo suburb of Machida through a second-floor window shortly after 4 a.m., Wednesday.
Then he produced a knife brought from home and repeatedly slashed his friend in the head. But the victim suffered only minor injuries, and managed to subdue his attacker and take him to the Machida Police Station.
The knife-wielding student, whose name is being withheld by law, was a close friend of the victim at their junior high school. The boys now attend separate high schools.(Mainichi and wire reports, Japan, Jan. 22, 2004)
