Not criminal, no. Speaking soley for my first post on this thread, I was referring only to the fact that if her and her militant hubby were to somehow find out who was posting the pics, they CAN sue without warning. Getting sued the way their high-punch lawyers seem to sue..... well, jail might be preferable :D

Who told you that? I went to the website for the CDC and they seem to be under the impression that it does. This is a quote from their website

"Women who smoke during pregnancy are at risk for premature birth, pregnancy complications, low-birthweight infants, stillbirth, and a higher rate of infant mortality.
For pregnant women and new mothers, smoking puts their baby at risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), poor lung development, asthma, and respiratory infections. "

      Who disproved it?

I've known a couple people who had really bad lung problems because their moms smoked during pregnancy. Not good.

Another interesting item about smoking when pregnant

"A study of a very large sample of children gives insights into the real dangers of smoking during pregnancy. Known as the National Child Development Study, in Britain, there were over 9,000 children measured to determine the effects of their mother?s smoking either 0, 10, or more than 10 cigarettes per day during pregnancy. When each child reached 7 and 11 years, there were a number of tests given to evaluate math ability, reading ability and general physical measurements. Results showed children of mothers who smoked 10 or more cigarettes a day are on average 1.0 centimeters shorter and between three and five months behind in reading, mathematics, and general ability when compared to the offspring of non-smokers."

I'm not going to laugh at you Enchantress - just the study... I know and have met hundreds of engineers in the past 10 years, all over 30 (which means the chances of their parents smoking like chimneys is huge) and they would all laugh their ass off at those 'results'.

Anti-smoking people are no different to any other 'anti' group. They will all twist facts and figures to show that 'they' are right - then the 'pro's will twist them round again... ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

While it is a fact that cigarette smoke is unpleasant to most non-smokers - it is also a fact that driving vehicles aroung causes more air pollution and health problems to non-smokers.

Anyone see the Bullshit episode on Showtime covering second hand smoke?

Good stuff watching the anti-smoking people trying to defend their totally made up "statistics" and "facts".

Uhm. Breasts do change when a women is pregnant, so they likely normally didn't look like they do in the pic...

Can you please find me a study that indicates that smoking during pregnancy is not harmful to the fetus. I'm very open minded, but have not been able to find any scientific data that supports the theory that smoking is irritating but not harmful.

I think Phillip Morris is the only company that publishes reports like the one you're asking about.. I think it's on their website ;)

Cigarette Smoking is not healthy for anyone. How can anyone argue otherwise??

at the medical school I go to we still get taught that smoking during pregnancy causes low birthweight.

                          PubMed

go to this link and type in 'smoking pregnancy "birth weight"' there is a heap of evidence that smoking causes low-birthweight.

It's not quite as serious as drinking during pregnancy, but arguing that it has no effect is to ignore a huge body of independent evidence.

And basically, if she cares about her unborn child and wants to give it every advantage she can in this world, she would not smoke. Period, the end, no argument needed.

Justifying it by pointing out that parents 30+ years ago did it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
I agree with the gist of your post, but people did have a pretty good idea of the health effects during pregnancy 30+ years ago. I was born in '67, and my mom suspended her (then) 12 year habit during the pregnancy. Same with general ill effects. People filing suits now claim ignorance, and the tobacco industry certainly disputed the studies up until the 80s, but my understanding is that there was pretty clear evidence of adverse first-person and fetal health effects back in the 60s.

Simply put.. your father would statistically live longer if he weren't a smoker.. your mother statistically lived longer than she would have had she been a smoker. Although, I'm sure your mother had more than her share of second hand smoke from your father's cigarettes.

I know a non smoker that was killed in a car accident when he was 19, does that have anything to do with smoking vs. non smoking related deaths? Nope!

I use to smoke but not really heavy my wife never has..If I saw my wife sucking on a smoke pregnant I'd smack her out!!!
even if she smoked I probably would never had dated her to get to the married life..level. if anty of you smoke now still you should quit period.. We all know when your young and partying you don't think about it and you alos think your bullet proof.. but it will sneak up on you later on in life. I'm not old either just smarter. alot of my family members died horrific deaths not being able to function and they were semi young still but didn't live that long? suffering slowly over time. much like my parent both did. My father (I'll share this with you) died of lung cancer and still young
he did the by-by in florida with in 6 months! pretty fast? he didn't believe the doctors when they told him he'd be dead in 6 months!
He mumbled stumbling in the door half pissed coming home from the bar remarking that the doctor is a quack? but the doctor was telling him the facts lung cancer from smoking! this is partly why I don't smoke? do I want to end up like that? NO.. I'm sure you've heard endless stories of this nature. but don't end up like this..
you life is suddenly cut short. and you don't get to meet your grand kids or go to anymore social events because you died young? think about it? . throw the smokes away.. I did.. so can you..! all the best this is no bullshit it's the truth.. all the best JIVE.
