Sexual fantasies for men and woman alike were to be featured at a huge trade show in Virginia Beach.
The "Sexology Expo 2003" was to be the 'who's who' of sex shows - offering meetings of porn stars and all kinds of adult novelties - at a two-day event, May 31st and June 1st, in a Virginia Beach hotel.
Instead, as WAVY News 10 found out in an interview with the expo's organizer, the show will not go on.
Precilla Zeno, owner of YouWantItAll Incorporated and organizer of the "Sexology Expo 2003," says the show's cancellation is due to pressure from the city, and that the whole episode is a big misunderstanding.
"People change their stories when they feel like they may be getting in trouble for something that they previously authorized, and that type of thing," Zeno told WAVY News 10. "So, that's where we are right now."
The flyers for the Expo advertise porn stars and adult novelties, but Zeno says the show was to raise funds for the prevention of child sexual abuse and for AIDS organizations. She says as soon as the city and hotel heard the word 'sex,' they pulled the plug.
The Clarion Hotel on Bonney Road, where the organizers were scheduled to hold the Expo, told WAVY News 10 the contract was terminated. "The company booked and then cancelled last week," said the hotel's General Manager. "Our hotel has nothing to do with this event."
Virginia Beach Mayor Meyera Oberndorf told WAVY News 10 she had just learned of the Expo.
"As a wife, a mother, and a grandmother, I did not think it was appropriate for the city of Virginia Beach because we put a great deal of emphasis on families," Oberndorf said.
Zeno says everyone who bought tickets to the event will receive a refund.
