You said you were not speaking personally, yet you were.
Why are you going to debate this?
Oh and as a side note, I was speaking generically, as in our economy seems to be doing well with a lower Canadian dollar value. I wasn't speaking personally.
Avoiding?
Yep, avoiding. Instead of agreeing you avoided and went on rambling about Robinson RRR and how many R's.
Anyway, looks like I got this one rolling, enjoy, I'm off to another thread.

You're taking it out of context, and if you go back and read my initial post again, you will realize I was talking about the country as a whole when I was referring to "quality of life", and doing just fine with a lower dollar. I wasn't speaking in amounts, I was speaking generically. When I said that *I* contribute to the economy, THAT was true, and in THAT case I was speaking personally. I am gonna have to watch you, you are a master of sophistry.
As of today, 1 lb sterling = 1.61 USD. Now, let's say you Fletchy did all of your online business with British companies who paid you in lbs, and when you deposit your cheques into your US bank you also gain the .61 exchange rate. So, for each $1000 a Brit company pays you, you end up actually making $1,610.00 US. This goes on for a few years, you making that markup due to the exchange rate...... then the value of the lb goes down and the US dollar strengthens. Within a few short months you begin to lose 5%, then 10% of your income, with no end in sight to the downswing.
You telling me you wouldn't be rooting for your US dollar to go back down a bit? If you say yes, I call bull fucking shit bro.
Sorry Fletch, but you have no idea what you're talking about. Canada's economy relies on a weak dollar because it attracts investment from places like the United States. US companies spend a ton of money in Canada precisely because it's a better deal for them. The weak Canadian dollar is what puts food on Canadian tables. We are not the United States. We are essentially a branch plant economy and as such need to attract foreign (US) investment. If the Canadian dollar rises too high, it will discourage this investment.

I don't see a bunch of Americans sitting around this board complaining about the exchange between us and the brits dude.
It's always Canadians complaining about the US economy and the value of our dollar, claiming their economy strives on a lower dollar value than ours. You're right in a sense I may be off base a bit, but I'm not the one complaining about exchanges.

Yup yup.
I'm not so much cheering for the Canadian dollar to get weaker as I am for the US dollar to get stronger. Anything that can bring that exchange rate back up is okay in my book.

It was a hypothetical parallel made to illustrate our situation ya big dummy.

Well, in all fairness it is really more whining than complaining that we're doing here. WTF is wrong with a little whining? D00d, like I tried to get across to you... if the situation were reversed you would see a shitload of 'mericuns on here bitching about their declining dollar value/exchange rates too.
It's a unique situation, because
A) much of the canukistanie webmaster's income comes from the US and is in US dollars
B) the USD is the standard form on currency on the internet.
C) webmasters in many different countries receive a nice bonus on the exchange rate.
and
D) when that exchange rate changes for the worse... people bitch. period. Doesn't matter what country you're in... if it happened to you, you'd bitch too.
It isn't about being Canadian, it's about taking a hit to your pocketbook for christ sake.

About 2 years ago it was 48. Things really have changed.
My lease has gone up by like $10 per month for the past 6 months because the american dollar is losing ground to the canadian. This exchange rate is killing me, I thought once the war in iraq would die down the USD would get better.
We don't withdraw from our US bank account, only deposit, and don't exchange to CAD. I still feel more comfortable having the money in US dollars, although at some point we'll get some more baskets.
This is a delicate time in the world at the moment, things will settle down.
