Why do people send viruses? Do they make money off them or something? Or is it just to be malicious.

most people do not intend to send them, but when their (and your) computer get infected, it then resends the virus to everyone in their/your contact list.

In my early years id write my own trojans and send them all over IRC.

The trojan's purpose was to infect the recipient and make him a "bot" and it would show up in my IRC channel.

With enough "bots" behind me, id have the power to cripple anyone in my way, or even knock a website offline for a good amount of time.

This was several years ago, when your reputation on IRC was measured by the size of the botnet you had, lol

Most bots i ever had at once was maybe 2200

Heres a pic i took when i had a small net up.

                    More like "some shit" HAHA

Ill admit, i used to think who the hell i was back then, lol

See with a net that size, you had the power to make or break a chan with ease. So we had large movie chans and warez chans eating out of our hands in fear of us dropping a flood on them.

                    Whats a flood?

Well .. imagine lets say 1k bots cycling in and out of a chan, and dropping colorful text mixed with bold and underlined words .. so fast it locks up your mirc and you get disconnected.

The colors and special characters like bold and underlined were necessary to overload the capasity of the IRC scripts.

Since the bots arent using a script, they dont get overloaded ... hence within a few minutes there is litterally nobody left in the chan, and you take control.

Sounds like a bunch of kid games, and it actually is. .... just a bunch of games, and alot of kids thinking who the fuck they are.

You can also have a botnet cycle a chan and send a msg to everyone in a channel (sometimes as many as 1k people at once) ... this was handy when you wanted to spam a website, or another chan name.

Ok im done with my flashbacks, i better quit talkin bout this before i go and open up my compilers again, LOL!!!!!

BTW anyone who has been in the industry long enough must know what a botnet is.

Im sure there is a way to get them to clickthrough on sites and fake clicks.

the particular bot i used to use was called GT (global threat)

                      heres some info ... http://www.lockdowncorp.com/bots/gtbot.html
