Just wondering what your thoughts are on this. I've had the discussion with many of my wifes friends and was curious how it's looked at by both genders.
Hell yea.. Got to keep your pimp hand strong..

Maybe I worded it wrong. Here is a situation I see more and more every day.

One of my male friends works 60 hours a week and makes decent money. His girlfriend lives with him and does not work. He pays for anything she needs and usually what she wants. We got on the discussion about housework and raising a kid and she said he should be doing half of the housework even in their current situation. On the discussion about kids he said if he had kids he didn't want them in daycare. She said that was too bad because if she decided to get a job that's where they would go. When I say a job I mean a $7 to $10 an hour job and she thinks that is alot of money. He makes about 4 times that. He said she should want to stay home and take care of the house and kids if they had any and she went off with the "No man is controlling me" spill immediately.

And I do agree with PornWulf. If the woman is making more money than you and wants to work the man should be taking care of the house and kids. If both parents work equally to make enough for their family it's a 50/50 deal.

She sounds like a retard. She thinks he should work 60 hours a week, she should work nothing and they should still split the housework 50/50?

I cannot find where PornWulf said this at all, but with this I completely agree! If the woman makes more money than the man, the man should stay home and take care of the kids!

You guys are just naturally assuming that the man is making more money, which is not always the case!!
And if they both make exactly the same, they both should
take care of the house 50/50 exactly!

I thought you guys were saying the wife should always stay home no matter what, if she makes more or not

No Pho, that's not what we said. In an ideal situation a man should be able to foot the bill 100% to free up the home life enough to cater to proper child rearing. In those situations where that's not the case it should be split to whatever takes care of the kids best.

A woman is not expected to clean and cook all the time. That's kind of midevil now isn't it? Hell, I'm throwing in a housekeeper and a part time chef so it's not the case in my household. But, that is not to say that a womans first priority should be to work in spite of the kids as you and many other confused womans lib advocates think.

I gotta stay independant! No man's controlling me! I gotta have my own money so when he leaves I'm ok!

Flawed thinking. Make the marriage work and you won't have to look at things that way.

Yes, I think your friends g/f needs to get her head examined....what does she do all day long??? If she is in school even, I'd take that as a reason for a split in responsibilities....

In this case, the split would be based on who had more time left at the end of the day to complete these tasks...if it's equal...then great! If not, of course the person with more time would be able to do more at home.

Wait till she hits 30-odd, I've seen plenty of people that had agreed not to have kids but change their minds once time started running out.

about sharing the workload in your home... you just do what you're good at.. 50/50 wont work and is inefficient.. it works the same in the business world.. when a team works on a project, each have their own job, most likely what they are best at... they are not required to share an equal amount of workload of every single part of the project, because it would be INEFFICIENT..

and something ive been wondering.. what did they base the facts on when they made the alimony laws? men make more money then women in average.. well ok.. if thats the case, then women must be taking care of the most house cleaning and stuff.. if the guy has to pay his ex-wife money, why doesnt she have to do his cleaning like once a week? such incosistency..

                            Hahaha! You are absolutely correct.

Alimony laws would change if politicians didn't have to worry about losing all of their women voters by trying to change them. They are stupid in most states. Men always lose.

as a woman i believe i should carry my own weight. if i can work, i should work. i hate relying on someone else and letting them determine how my life should be ran. a guy wanting to pay for something is one thing and i appreciate that. a guy having to pay for something creates nothing but controversy somewhere down the line.

my opinion, honestly, is unless you have children (which is a very full time job from what i see my girlfriend's go thru) or you have a physical challenge that prevents you from working (and even that can be overcome with today's technology), a woman should work if for nothing else, her own sense of accomplishment and the ability to say she made it on her own without directly relying on a guy.

again, this is my personal opinion and the rules i set for myself. some women may disagree, as well some men.

btw, this does not mean that men should sit back and rely on a woman as the sole provider.

Did that.. Sept of 98... after I'd been doing this 3 years. I told him he needed to do something other than hang around the house and drive the kids back and forth to school. Offered to set him up in some biz, be it a shop of some sort or real estate, etc. Well..he chose his extracurricular activity within about 6 months of that. He's living with her now.

Then had the balls or lack of.. to claim during our divorce that his 8 months of 'stay at home time" was of equal value to what I was doing. Didn't bother to think about all the years I'd been mom, accountant, cook, maid, chaffeur, main breadwinner, etc etc, plus started a biz to boot that allowed him to live pretty comfortably.

Your situation is different but most of the college age girls I have spoken to have the attitude that they want to work and the housework etc should be done by both parties regardless of whether or not he works longer or makes more money etc. I'm just wondering what happened to the women that want to raise a family and take care of the house.
Raising a family and taking care of the house doesn't go very far when divorce rears its ugly head. The pay sucks.

Having said that, I've owned my own business, so I could stay home with my son.....

and when it comes to housework..... hire a cleaning person. Dirt is inert and doesn't take rocket science to accomplish.

Women and men should work. Whoever stays home should watch the kids. It's not necessarily the woman who should stay home, especially if the guy is better suited, personality wise.

                                              Marriage is a business partnership.
