Impossible to say...you'd have to test. The wording on the AVS links can make all the difference. You could get no traffic or lots.
If you run sponsors on the site in addition to AVS sales, then you want to keep the AVS links, but otherwise, just don't link. That'll solve a lot of bandwidth problems, but you're also missing a lot of traffic that could be diverted to something else.
Another option is to go the "premium avs" route, so there will be fewer password holders coming to your site.
You can also do what a lot of webmasters do and use the AVS to enter into a smaller subset of your overall site and then sell an additional membership for the rest of the stuff. 1 GB of content on an AVS site is a lot.
