Actually if you think about it a bit KRL, it would probably be relatively easy for him to get another job. If he's cleaning ducts and helping do A/C work then most likely he's HVAC certified. Those guys are always in pretty high demand. Down here right now the HVAC contractors are on the radio begging people to come apply for a job, even unskilled folks - they'll train you and put you through the certification process.
I know what you mean though about firing or being part of a firing process. Gotta take your heart out of it and think to yourself that if *they* were half as concerned about supporting their family as you are, then they'd be doing their job rather than goofing off.
Besides, in this situation you're the customer, not the boss. Think of the risks of this guy going home and calling up child protective services saying it you've got nekkid pics in your closet of "very young" girls, and you've got kids in the house. Damn I don't even want to think of the ramifications of that. Even though your pics are legal and out of the reach of your kids, this could cause you major problems.
Just in case - if CPS *does* show up at your house, under no circumstances do you let them in unless they've got a warrant AND your lawyer is on-site. Once you let them in they are free to do whatever they want (like a vampire crossing the threshhold) - including grabbing your kids and taking them away without having to tell you where they're taking them.
