                                      Alexa is pretty accurate, for about 80% of all sites. Not door-nail accurate, but it's not off by much.

                                          i know a company that managed to get high rank for their dating site by tricking alexa in order to gain more advertisers :-)

                                              Thehun gets over 1.5million unique visitors a day its ranked at like 1200

                                              consumptionjunction gets over 200k uniques a day and is ranked at around 680.

                                                          it's useful as a rule of thumb,

                                                          eg. a site bewteen 0 and say 50,000 gets say lots of traffic, 50,000-200,000, average, 200,000+, low volume...so you can tell very generally
