The only thing stuff like this does is take away the incentive for them to actually become legal.

It's a political move just to get more votes from the Mexican-Americans.

Same thing with Joe Lieberman saying he'd support black reparations.

How many people will this affect - Probably a few million?

Which means emplyers now having to pay their insurance contributions etc -
And the workers now having to pay tax -

It is a good move by the president - Tho many will not see it that way!

14 Million votes from Bush supporters estimated by the administration is enough to topple other Presidential hopefuls
if such law is implemented. Timing is such a big factor of such legislation.

I've had shitty jobs where there were 5 Americans and 18 illegals and the illegals were great workers. They were doing shitty work that nobody else wanted despite the good pay. If they want to work, let them stay. They aren't stealing jobs from anyone except lazy fuckers that don't even bother to apply.

I don't see how it would help US citizens or the economy because all these "guest workers" are going to be making minimum wage and sending it back to their countries.

                  This IS your PRESIDENT talking:

                  ...
But the truth of the matter is the vast majority of foreign workers in America are from Mexico. We know that in Texas very well.

And as I repeat to you that this is a - these workers are of benefit to my country. They are hardworking, decent, honorable people that are in our country because - to fill jobs that others won't take, on the one hand; and also to make a living to put money - to get money and to send money back to their families.

There is a deep human desire for a mother or a father to provide for his or her family. And that's how I view the motivations of good, decent, Mexican citizens working in our country. And it seems like to me it makes sense to have laws that treat people with respect.

We are a country of law. Real law is important in America. And therefore, we ought to not have a system that is based upon an undocumented underclass, but a system that is based upon law.

And so, I'd - you said something about politics. Yes, there's politics involved. But the reason I made - and there will be politics probably involved in whether or not it passes Congress. But the reason I proposed the initiative is because it is the right thing for America to do.

How about the fact that no one cares that there aren't jobs that pay Americans good wages? If these jobs paid well, we wouldn't need foreign workers..

Its a historical fact that the number one group hurt by US immigration policies are African-Americans. Instead of relying on newly emancipated black labor, American industry in the 1870's relied on imported European labor. Same situation occured in the 1960's. Instead of soaking up newly desegregated black labor, the 1965 Immigration law was passed which opened the US to its current round of immigration.
