    Why Do You Celebrate Easter?

    I have been thumbing through my bible since I got up this morning, and I cant find the passage that tells us to celebrate the death of jesus.

    Can a christian please show me where it says to celebrate Easter in the bible?

          I didn't.
          I was not enjoying myself at the countryside.
          I had an old 486 and a crappy webbrowser to entertain me. I had a horrible easter. I did get drunk though.

                      I generally dont see it as a huge deal, but this year!

                      #1 great aunts birthday is april 20th (90yrs old)

                      #2 grandpa died on april 19th (we were super close)

                      #3 my aniversary is april 22nd


                      So im gonna wrap it all into one dinner, lol

                              Consider the scriptures that clearly proclaim that the keeping up of these festivals is sinful.

                              Checking on the origins of these festivals will reveal the truth of paganism.

                              However, I ask that you seek this out for yourself. God?s people always seek the truth. Consider these scriptures:

                              Jeremiah 10:1-5 1 ¶ HEAR ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

                              2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

                              3 For the customs of the people [are] vain: for [one] cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

                              4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

                              5 They [are] upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also [is it] in them to do good.

                              First of all, God is telling us in this verse "Do not learn the way of the Gentiles" Don't even learn it, let alone practice it!

                              The Gentiles were dismayed at the signs of heaven. When the sun began to go further away from the earth and the days grew shorter in the winter, the sun worshipping Gentiles feared that the sun would not return. So they held certain festivals around the time of the Winter Solstice when it did begin to return. One of the customs was to decorate a tree that they had cut down and fasten it so that would not topple.

                              God tells us not to learn the way of the heathen. And here He even describes a custom that is a way of the heathen. Yet, we see this same custom exist even today which is called the Christmas tree.

                              Have you ever wondered why in the world someone would do something as strange as cut down a tree and put it in their house and then decorate it with all different types of ornaments?

                              Not only is it odd, it is pagan. This custom, along with other pagan customs like it are clearly condemned in this passage.'

                                              either way, its not mentioned as a day of observance.

                                              nowhere in the bible does it say to 'celebrate the death of christ.'

                                              ithey were already celebrating Passover BEFORE christ was dead, days so in the bible, 'AFTER PASSOVER' from Acts 12:4

                                                  i guess now would be the time to say i was suspended from catholic school more than once for debating things like this in religion class.

                                                  including having to take religion classes during the summer because i failed to cooperate.

                                                  ive been probing the mind of christians since 5th grade. when i was first suspended for not standing when the priests would enter class.

                                                                          why celebrate a holiday when it's mostly a holiday with a financial gain? just celebrate a run of the mill day in august...that way you know it's a real celebration and not one that has been drilled into our heads because society deems it a holiday to celebrate.

Possibly what 5-7000 years before christ? When was the story of Osiris first being used?

Ive read it a few times just now, and i swear it reads like a pagan ceremony talking about the trees and water but only a mention of 'The Lord' again, no talk of 'celebrating the death of christ' or his resurrection, it simply says 'REJOICE and SHOUT' but nothing about when or how to do it.

                                                                                          Because EASTER in the form it is today is a PAGAN holiday that was adapted by the church when they realized they weren't going to eliminate all of the "pagan" rituals from the pagans they converted. Just like Christmas .. Jesus wasn't born in December. The date was a later adaptation of a Roman festival. It's too cold in Bethleham to have sheep in the fields etc in December. Do some research, it's not hard to dig up. Passover itself is in the bible.. however, as I say, Easter as it is today is NOT. Most of the "holy days" that organized religion adhere to have their basis in "pagan" holidays. It was simply easier to adapt the holidays to what the people already did (generally in the dark ages where people were uneducated and "paganism" was more the norm) in order to convert them than to change everything all around. And considering most pagan holidays commemorate some sort of event such as the beginning of spring, that kind of idea, it was also a good way for the church to involve themselves in these celebrations as well. I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying this, but do some research and it's not too difficult to find all this out for yourself

                                                                                                                          Hey, the kids in my family, nieces and nephews etc, like to get chocolate bunnies and easter eggs. Leave Easter alone damn you!!



                                                                                                                          I think that except for the very religious types, most adults nowadays just appreciate Easter because it is a long weekend. Here in Canada, many workers get a 4-day weekend, and "celebrate Easter" because it is simply a holiday, and not much more. It could easily be called "St. Wonka's Day" in honor of Willy's chocolate factory and his god-given confections.

                                                                                                                          Also, many people only "become" religious on these types of holidays, saying grace at the dinner table before dinner on Easter Sunday, thinking about Jesus and being thankful etc... same with Christmas and Thanksgiving.... but the other 362 days of the year it is business as usual.

                                                                                                                                                          I celebrate Easter for two reasons. Neither of them have the slightest thing to do with Jesus.

                                                                                                                                                          First, I like to reminisc about my childhood. To remember good times with a family that wasn't always perfect, and a time when the best thing in the world was a basket of candy.

                                                                                                                                                          Second, I'm a "only on Easter" kind of pagan. I'm not big on organized religion, but I like tradition. Ostara is a big one that still belongs to us, since candy took it back from the Catholics.

                                                                                                                                                                                              He called himself the "Lamb of God." A lamb that had to be sacrificed for all our sins on a cross.

                                                                                                                                                                                              The Jews in order for the angel of death to passover their homes had to slaughter a lamb and paint the blood on the door frames..left, top, right...almost like the placement of Jesus' hands and head.

                                                                                                                                                                                              Jesus was crucified on what people believe was a Friday:

                                                                                                                                                                                              Luke 23:54 And that day was the preparation [Friday], and the sabbath drew on.

                                                                                                                                                                                              Saturday being the Sabbath

                                                                                                                                                                                              Luke 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

                                                                                                                                                                                              Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week [Sunday], very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.


                                                                                                                                                                                              And this all happened during Passover...according to some who study this...the plot to kill Jesus was actually made on the passover day they are to select the passover "lamb."


                                                                                                                                                                                              So take it for what it's worth.
