It's not that cut and dry if you ask me. It all depends on the situation, like how you met the girl, what you've done together, have in common, etc.
If I had my choice, I prefer #2 but it's a hard thing to get going and even harder to keep going. Then of course, if things don't work out, it's a bitch to end.
