Unless there is a geniune misunderstanding here I dont think the company owners are losing any sleep over seeing the guy's wife start this thread. Even if they knew he had a wife and two starving children it probably wouldnt make much of a difference.
Sometimes the owners screw you out of the cash because they are greedy, other times they screw you because they dont have the funds themselves and are trying to keep a dying company afloat, but either way I dont think you will gain much sympathy from them and I dont think it will get them to paying you anytime sooner.
Hope Im wrong, but that's the way its been from my experience.
