Stupid Fuckin' US Terror Alert Levels

I'm getting sick and tired hearing about the US's fuckin' color coded terror alert levels, going up and down...Makes me shake my head.

U.S. terror alert level lowered to 'yellow'
    http://www.yahoo.com/s/77102

I didn't waste my time reading this article, just noticed it as I was skimming over the headings on Yahoo! Usually it's followed by saying how security levels are being heightend or lowered...Good idea to inform the rest of the world of this and give Americans a false sense of security or insecurity.

and what the fuck's with the color system?

it's like the government thinks you're all a fuckin' bunch of babies

    red = hot = don't touch/bad

If I didn't know that this was in place before Bush was in the White House I'd think this was one of his bright ideas...unfortunately it can't be blammed on him.

It wasn't in place before Bush became president he and his dumbass cronies are the ones who created the color coded terror alert system that they manipulate to scare the people of the country into supporting whatever action they feel they need to take at the moment in order to push their agenda.

Need to go to war on some country, raise the alert.

Need to talk about tax cuts and try to stimulate the economy lower the alert so people feel safer.

Is there a difference in the terror threat to the country between these two times?

No there isn't it remains the same the truth is the govt doesn't have a fucking clue when something is about to happen anyway.

What Im wondering about, is does it influence anything?

Do americans not go outside when it reaches 'high'? Or do you just shoot Arabs on sight when its over 'yellow'

or do you bring your gas mask starting at "elevated'?

I mean, what's the actual use of this?

It was in place before Bush was president...They were talking about it on CNN here not so long ago...I can't remember the exact year, but it was years ago.

If I'm wrong, then CNN's wrong....I'd assume they'd know something like that.

The threat is close to ZERO anyway. Al-Qaeda didn't do anything during the war. This means the organization is almost dead.

Al-Qaeda isn't the only terrorist group out there.

Regardless of the public good the Terror Alert System does or does not do [probably effectively none], the system was initiated as a reaction to public and rather vocal complaints after 9-11 that there needed to be such a system.

I think the truth - that the system was initiated in response to public complaints and congressman's urging makes more sense than the system was created to "scare people" so "Bush can go to the next country". I doubt most people even know what the current terror alert level is and they probably don't care either.

Unless it goes to "red". ;-)

Can someone show me proof to back that up, I'm sure it was in place long before then.

I thought that it was instituted by the Department of Homeland Security, which is a new agency.

The color codes terror system went into effect March 12, 2002. I think there WAS some sort of system before that didn't have any specific government actions associated with the system. Not sure what it was.

yeah, wasn't the earlier system not based on colors at all? i think it was a relic from the Cold War period and related more to perceived nuclear threat... DEFCON 5, anyone? wasn't that part of the terminology..?

Its all about keeping terror and demons at the front of peoples minds. Bush and co can and will use terror as an excuse and diversion for many things, from the pitiful economy to stripping the constitution. Not that other politicians wouldnt use it too if they could. Bushs approval ratings would be terrible if not for terrorism.

The actual use of this is to inconvenience the fuck out of air travelers.

Yellows no biggie, but when the stupid thing goes to orange you can count on wasting a shitload of time getting thru the airport, since they start by searching cars on the way into the airport and if you're going to park you get it again... the security lines get slower on orange too since the fucktarts from the gov't seem to think that asking you what your name is and where you are going constitutes a security check... and of course the little kids hardly know their names much less where they are flying to on a given day.
