Is it against the law to...

Buy a domain name that is close to another popular one but maybe one letter/number off? If you were to buy Yahooo.com or Amozan.com or other commonly mistyped names in order to get their traffic? The reason I ask is because one of our competitors did that to us and we are not sure if it's legal or not.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!

That is obvious, talk to your attorney.

If they were in a different biz than you, different story maybe.

3 years ago I wanted to register Amazom.com ( was still available, must had gotten lots of misspells ) but decided that it is not such a good idea, even though I was in Poland.
      I don't use ICQ anymore.

I'd say its down to chance. You could buy one and never get caught but on the other hand you could set up a site and get busted next day.

Its down to wether or not you wanna take the chance ??

Personally I would never do it.

I agree 100%! If it were not a competing company then it would be an entirely different story.

some pedophile registered hundreds of domains that were misspelled Disney characters to lure them into sexsites... that was a big case... dunno if it would be if you keep it mainstream

                              I have a misspelled disney domain I don't use.

What's sicker is a guy had a java game site on another misspelled disney channel domain that was getting massive typeins. He made the kids install a dialer before they played games. Pretty disgusting.

                              The processor was nocreditcard.com btw

BTW, how about domains like disneyporn.com, disneyxxx.com etc.
Zuccarini ( that guy who is probaby still in jail ) had them, but the whois is still showing him as the owner.
