                Boycotting French companies simply because they are "French" is assinine. Let me tell you something about the French company I work for. We have 16,000 employees here in the United States. These 16,000 AMERICAN employees enjoy a $1,000,000,000 annual payroll. I spend my French paycheck on my American bills.

                My French company gifted a $500,000 firetruck to the FDNY in the wake of 9/11. My French company matched employee contributions to the 9/11 fund 2-to-1, meaning my $100 donation turned into $300. The company match totalled over $1,000,000. A division of my French company was on the scene at Ground Zero - within hours of the collapse - handing out thousands of cases of bottled water to rescue workers.

                Are we disgusted by the stand the French are taking with the War on Iraq? For many of us, Hell yes. Our US CEO even put that in writing. But I don't think that my employer - either those in France or those in the US - really had any say in the stance the French government is taking, do you?

                                That was kind of my point. There are several emails going around with lists of French companies to boycott. On one I saw, there were 6 divisions of my company listed. All of them US companies under French ownership. I'm sure this is the story with most of those "French" companies. So when people say "I'm boycotting Fench companies", realize that you aren't boycotting the French, you are boycotting your fellow Americans.

                                I forgot to add that my company is paying all reservists called to active duty for the war, full wages and benefits for the duration of their duty. But, we are listed on the French Boycott list 6 times.

                                        Yep, I agree. I hadn't seen any lists so I didn't know anything about that. I always laugh when I see the French and Germans boycotting "American companies", when they're not American at all.

                                        For the most part, boycotts are silly.

They don't ban it per se, like with a law, but if Wal-Mart came to this area and asked planning & zoning if they could build one, they'd be told to fuck off (and have been repeatedly). They're putting in a Sam's Club about 20 miles away, and twice people came into my store to try to sell me memberships, and I told both of them that I don't shop at shitholes like that. One tried to tell me, "Oh, didn't you know that Sam's Club is owned by Wal-Mart"? Dumb bitch. I told 'em both to take their pushy, shit-eating minimum wage asses out of my store and not to come back.
