SARS hits San Jose after airplane quarantined.

American Airlines plane quarantined in San Jose, SARS suspected

An American Airlines flight from Tokyo has been quarantined in San Jose after four people complained of symptoms like those from the mysterious new illness known as SARS.

Flight 128 had stopped in Hong Kong before heading for San Jose.

Two passengers and two crew members complained of symptoms similar to those found in Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

More than 16-hundred cases of the illness have been reported so far worldwide -- with at least 64 deaths.

City health officials say those reporting the illness will be taken off the plane and examined. The rest of the passengers will be told what they should be doing.

Officials say it's unclear whether exposure on a flight is sufficient to infect people.

"Officials say it's unclear whether exposure on a flight is sufficient to infect people."

      That is so fucking funny.

Hong Kong sealed off SARS-hit apartments because 98 people got infected. And they are still saying not to worry because you can contract it only from a close contact.

I don't think those 98 people in the same apartment building, did an orgy recently.

"SARS is thought to be spread by droplets containing the coronavirus, meaning people would have to be in close proximity to a carrier to be infected.

But there are fears that it may also be airborne, meaning infectious particles could linger in the air as long as an hour after a carrier has left the room.

Singapore's Health Minister, Lim Hng Kiang, said yesterday that a group of "super-infectors" have spread the disease rapidly to dozens of others with minimal exposure. (It is well established that some people shed viruses more efficiently than others, but it is unclear why.)

"We run the risk of a huge new cluster of infected people, which could start a chain reaction," Mr. Lim said."

i figured as much NoCarrier... just had to try to lighten the thread a little, worried here too. i spend half the year in thailand usually, and this has me seriously worried. friends in thailand told me last night that they hadn't seen any getting sick in our locale over there yet, so i am hoping the blight doesn't spread that far south..!

The common cold kills people? Anyways, the reason people are panicking is because there is no cure for it... Yet.

Come here in Hong Kong and you'll not beleive your eyes on how many people are panicking about this SARS. Everywhere you go, you see legion of people all wearing protective masks. It's very weird here even for a freak like Raven

Is SARS treatable when it's in the early stages?

False alarm on the aircraft ... probably hysteria on the plane combined with panic by the crew.
