    If there was a draft, would you go or not?

    I appreciate the US soldiers liberating Iraq, getting rid of WMD, and fighting terrorism... all that sort of good stuff.

    Thats pretty nice of them to do all that for me... but if it came down to me doing it for them??? I really dont think I would be willing to risk my life for my fellow American. I value freedom and stuff... but Im a lazy fucker.

    I know it sounds selfish... but fuck it.

          The whole concept of the draft scares me. Thankfully there isn't such a thing in my country (yet).

              this is the reason we don't have a draft anymore. No professional soldier wants to be put into a combat situation and have to depend on someone like you that doesn't want to be there and cares more about his television than his life.

                  As if half the kids who joined right now joined thinking they would go to war?

                  The military in this country is for kids who cant make it to college. Not because they want to fight. Its an easy way out of the ghetto, and an easy way for Joe Ignorant American to get a trade without having to spend 6 years book learnin.

                  Im not saying everyone is like that, but I am sure its a fucking staggering figure. Every kid I have ever known who joined the military did so to learn a trade, not to fight.

                          indeed... when we went in '91, we had a guy refuse to go. Said he didn't sign up for this shit... just wanted to go to school. They stripped him of rank right down to nothing and he pushed a broom outside headquarters until they finally kicked him out.

Then Just before I would die I would know in my heart I did something for the good of the world instead of setting back and letting the young men and women do it for me. If I could get a time machien i would join the services at 18 then the fire dept and when i met my ex wife I would run her ass over. *shrugs* but wish I could go and help

                                                                                                          Hey Tanker and Amp, if there *was* a draft, would they take me? I know they disqualify certain people. Other than previous broken bones and bad eyesight, I'm pretty healthy (not in shape, but healthy!). As a 32-yr old married mom of two, would they disqualify me?
                                                                                                          They might look up my ASFAB score (took it once but first husband wouldn't let me join up - I was 20), I got a 98% on it overall; they tried to talk me into being a translator and I wanted to get dirty and fire guns. Now stupid me looks back and realizes that I could've gone from there to undercover spy-type stuff and I slam my head on the wall anytime I think about it. I'd love to do that.

                                                                                                                  I do think the reimplementation of the draft would be the best thing that ever happened to the so-called peace movement. You'd see a whole lot of keyboard warriors who are very pro war right now start singing a whole different song.

                                                                                                                      My son is in his 20's. His best friend signed up for the army because he couldn't afford college. That was right after highschool 1999.

                                                                                                                      I just got of the phone with my kid, he told me that Chris is in Iraq (we are digging for old pictures now) and Chris's parents gave me his units address.

                                                                                                                      I have known Chris since he was 12. He went in for 4 years and supposed to get out in August this year. UHM, don't think he is getting out.

                                                                                                                      I agree, nobody things they will go to war, its not like the Army advertises, Join Now and go to WAR. they say JOIN now and get your college paid for.

I just came back from the recruiters today and I will be going back into the military. I have 6 years already, and now I feel the need to back my convictions by doing something more then running my mouth on GFY which is alot more then I can say for most of the bithches on here. The paperwork is being filed and in about 8 weeks I will be counted once more among the US Army that I left. I dont really care about the paycut or the fact I will be missing the woman I have loved the last 5 years, because there is something that you learn, above that all, when you are willing to give your life for someone else who is willing to give thier life for you. I will miss your daily bitching on GFY from your warm safe chairs that you actually think your are doing something from.

But if my country needed me I would serve, just hope we don't ever see a war where a draft is needed due to the fact it would have to be a world war!!
