I would defend my children. However, that would also include not staying somewhere that would force them to pick up arms at 6 years old. There were children shooting at american soldiers who were told that if they didn't, their entire families would be killed. Sounds like a place worth defending to me. I'm intensely (probably obsessively) overprotective of my children. Even if it ment leaving on foot and selling my body to support them in order to do it, I'd be out of Iraq before you could say "gone".
