What exactly is the 1/2 life of a popup? And when do you give up?

ok, popups make money. I won't dispute that.

but what exactly is the 1/2 life of adding an extra popup?

example ( and truly an example - not real numbers)- if someone gets 100 sales without popups, with one popup they'll get an extra 15 sales for 115 total. with 2 popups they'll get 15+ 6 for 121 sales total, with 3 popups they'll get 15+6+3=124 total sales and so on...

At WHAT point to do give up? or do you?

Thoughts............

personally i think anyone doing much more than 2 has absoluty no respect for a surfer, and doesn't know when to give up and move on.

at one point a company i worked for had 8... it drastically affected sales. two is good... first one leading back into your other sites then the second for top affiliates.

i like the idiots who open up a never ending console hell that the surfer can't get out of without shutting down. That makes alot of sense

guarantee you half these companies haven't even done a valid study on their pop-ups and have no idea past the first two consoles what's going on.

I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

WEGCash are pretty scientific about their business so I am assuming that even that 15th exit console must be bringing in some $$$ or serving some purpose. Maybe they sell those impressions through one of these traffic brokers or something.

for a PPS program PureCash is very good with popups, compared to other PPS and even some revshare programs we are angels.
No time delayed shit hiding in the taskbar. Nothing gets opened behind the browser on entrance.

quickbuck has 4 or 5 i think... but that's if you choose the traditional console option.. if you go with console lite you get 2.

back to my origional question - you're a good one to ask as you guys usually have a clue and know what you're doing

what do you find is the half life of the 4 or 5 consoles you use? do they decrease with each popup? what influenced you to stop at 4/5? money? respect for a surfer? another reason?

We've found that the returns on anything after the second consoles are pretty negligble.

Agreed, the first console does very well, and the second does ok. But the third (and more) do nothing more than piss off the surfer. The click ratios drop through the floor after 2 consoles.

And, yes, this is based on hard numbers after running console programs for the past 4 years.

Lightspeed must agree with the 2 deep theory. Of course they bash the hell out of it. They do
2 on entrance
2 exits main program
2 on exit from the entrance pops.

Topbucks does 1 entrance and 2 exit. I see sales from these now and then so they must be good for me too.

I think i need to add some pop ups to my stuff. For those of us who filter, I normally jsut want them at the tour with no distractions but that is just me.

well it's hard to measure that exactly.

but i'd venture to guess that the 2nd console is half as effective as the first, the 3rd is half as effective as the 2nd and there comes a point, around 4 or 5 where each additional console carries the same value as the previous ones.

I don't like pop ups. Well certainly not for all my traffic. Right now I have a redirect for my UK traffic to send them to an SMS messaging thing and its working out really well. I'll keep it for a while longer but not indefinate.

The only other time I have pop ups on my site is when I am feeding some traffic to my other sites.

I agree 10% on the THIRD console, that's good. On average, we get 10% on our second console.

if i ran a paysite i would use 2 on exit, thats it. i think a list of what pop ups sponsors have is a great idea.
