Man blasts traffic cam with shotgun: cops

Call it photo-radar rage.
A 27-year-old Winnipeg man is facing mischief and firearms charges after allegedly using a shotgun to take out his frustrations on one of the city's photo-enforcement cameras.
A motorist was eastbound on Marion Street about 4 a.m. Thursday when the camera flashed, clocking the vehicle going through the intersection at Dufresne Avenue 27 kilometres over the 50 km/h speed limit, police said.
"His picture was taken. It appears he took exception to that," said Winnipeg police Const. Bob Johnson.
The motorist drove home and grabbed a shotgun before returning to the intersection and firing two shots at the camera, creating $10,000 in damage, police said.
"It's pretty unusual," Johnson said about the incident, which is likely the first case of photo-enforcement rage in the city. "We've never had one before."
Ironically, the man's truck had Alberta plates, which means he wouldn't have gotten a ticket anyway.
Under legislation, out-of-province drivers can not be ticketed in the photo-enforcement program.
The shots damaged the camera but did not destroy the stored images. Police used those images and witness accounts to track down the culprit.
SUSPECT ARRESTED
On Friday, a suspect was arrested at his home, where a shotgun was also recovered, police said.
Police are not releasing his name. He has been released on a promise to appear.
