The whole embedded thing exists so that the military can control what info goes out, dumbass. They would only have to worry if there were a bunch of independent journalists running around.

Actually there are quite few independants including the ITN crew killed yesterday ans Sky News have at least 2 independant teams in S Iraq now doing live reports.

This "embedded" term is funny. I love all the catchphrases we've seen lately.
Anyhow...they've been doing for a while now. In Vietnam for sure...probably sooner. Some of the big name faces we see sitting behind network news desks were the first "embedded" journalists.
Who's the guy who comes up with all the catchphrases? He's a fucking genius!

I know. The original poster was contending that "embedded" journalists are jeapordizing the militaries ability to do its job. Just saying that is ridiculous because the military controls these journalists satellite uplinks, movements, and access to information.
There were a whole shitload of articles before this started about how the pentagon was vetting these "embedded" journalists by their support of the war, political views and so forth.
its up to journalist to say whatever he wants but of course he was told not give out any info that would benefit Iraq, cause i am sure thats how Iraq gathers their intelligence from the news station. lol
I heard several times when a journalist said
"I got in trouble last time i said blah blah blah"
it just proved to me that the military isn't censoring it before it airs

You're so funny. The fact that you can't formulate a thought without a personal attack on someone says a lot about the quality of your ideas.
This is a war in another country. They don't have to have ANY journalists there if they don't want them. There is no danger of independent journalists running around the battlefield. The fact that we hear anything at all is only because of the "embedded" journalists. If you really think the military is controlling what news we hear (beyond keeping sensitive data out of the reports) than you've way out in left field. The relationship is one of animosity because journalists won't do as they are told.

How do you censor LIVE feeds anyway? Isn't that one of the advantages of live feeds?
Sure, the military can yell at them and threaten to shut them down, but does that really keep down a reporter from reporting LIVE information? Reporters are sneaky, they'll do things even when they're told not to. Which in my mind, is a huge security risk.
