They don't sound very "pro" to me. The whole point of a RAID is ZERO downtime. I'd find another host. These guys don't sound too bright.

Dame! What kind of system are they running over there - They have every site on the same RAID? That sucks...

i know... even if most of their customer base doesn't frequent GFY and is privy to all of the prohosters-hatred that circulates here, you would think the often and extended downtimes would thin out their customer base pretty quickly... 10 hour downtimes due to hardware issues are inexcusable in this industry. hell, on saturday no less..

This is odd stuff. I know nothing about Prohosters but I do know this. The purpose of a RAID array is to stay up after a drive failure, rebuilding is done in the backround. It is hard to believe they only have one drive array holding all their web sites.

I used prohosters for a year before dumping them in Feb. Virtual hosting shouldn't be that expensive.

That's true... I'm sitting in front of an el-cheap-o ($250) IDE 2 drive RAID right now at my PC, and it has *zero* downtime. I can't believe a hosting company can't do at *least* that. Sounds like a complete bullshit excuse. My guess is that they have one hard drive for the whole damn thing, and they're busily restoring the backup right now. What a nightmare! Do people actually PAY them money for that??

If you have anything on Water, might want to check your sites. About half of mine are intact, the other half have been restored to the AUGUST FUCKING 9, 2002 backup. And one is just plain no longer available, at least not through FTP.

I'm (almost) as mad at myself for still being with them as I am for the latest fuck-up. Procrastination is not a good thing. This time, we're outta there.

How does the saying go? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, well, gosh-darn, shame on you again...repeat ad nauseum...

                                              Dear Customer:

At approximately 10:30PM EST March 21 2003 Pro Hosters
experienced several drive failures on our cluster raid for the server
cluster water.4ph.com. Subsequently, all live backups were all
                                              corrupted
due to filesystem errors and we were left with a manual backup we did a
                                              couple of months back.

Our staff has been working around the clock to recover the
data from the original raid. Although the outcome looked bleak we
                                              believe
we will have an answer within the next 3 hours as to whether we have
recovered the data from the first array. A second array has been put
                                              in
the place of the first with a backup from a few months back. We will
                                              mount
all the data if we can recover it and move the data to the new array.

Obviously there is a flaw in live real-time backup if it copies
the corruption over. Therefore we will implement tape backup archives
                                              from now
on, on a daily basis. Pro Hosters has not guaranteed the data safety
                                              for
any customer in the past, however we anticipate by April 1 2003 we will
                                              be able
                                              to guarantee the data.

We thank all of our customers for their continued patience and
support as work to resolve this matter as quickly as possible.

Obviously there is a flaw in live real-time backup if it copies
the corruption over. Therefore we will implement tape backup archives
                                                  from now
                                                  on, on a daily basis.

I must stress that its for mostly non-adult sites.

I really hate to go to the AID of PH but you are a biased individual without any facts whatsoever. If they lost a mission criritcal RAID and informed their customers about it and managed to recover the data which I am hearing they did, and STAY in business, then you can't compare them at all to hosthybrid. Yes Ted is a complete asshole however you can't compare apples to oranges. I don't think Ted is all that comprises PH nor do I think he's the antichrist of the internet. I wouldn't host with him but that' my opinion and it's surely not because of a virtual hosting RAID array going down. HostHybrid was obviously a scam which PH is not and therefore PH going down CANNOT make HostHybrid look good. HostHybrid are crooks. PH is just stupid for letting cat videos ever get to the internet in the first place.

                                                                            MRTHUMBS,

He apparently kept all charges quiet. Maybe he had a good attorney, maybe he had validity in his story I have no idea regardless he has beaten the system. The cats were proven to be in PERFECT HEALTHY conditions. And I'm sure even though part of his defense was that the videos weren't made by him that doesn't matter for DMCA. Let a dead horse lie.

PH hosts some very big names in our business. They didn't get them by accident. Now Ted is an asshole but I hardly doubt he is trying to be like HH or trying to stir publicity by being like HH. I think they are two different animals, and I for one do not believe they are lying about the RAID failing, because it does happen. From my sources at PH (both employees and customers) they were able to recover the data from 3 days ago. However if you read their TOS it's very plain they don't guarantee this in the first place. I have friends there on dedicated plans and they never have issues except network outtages which happen. To base your entire opinion of PH on the fact that some fat fuck threw a cat and his virtual RAID went down is absurd. I am in this business to make money and whatever makes me money is what I'm going to do. Now I'll get flamed for this next comment, but I think if Ted got his shit together and stopped making a complete asshole out of himself PH could be a great hosting company, they are apparently going mainstream and not adult oriented at all. National Net is still the best in my book though.

You didn't base it all on one incident. Not that any of it matters, because I do not think PH will accept adult anymore, soon. My sources say that PH is getting out of adult completely. And I can show you 10 of my friends who had horror stories with Webair. They are just the hosting company of the month in my book. Jumping on an oppurtunity. There simply is no one better than National Net in my mind, but I'm sure in manys that same company is PH.
