Because you spend more on them doesn't mean they will appreciate it more. This is the case with my girlfriend.
For her Birthday I took her out to silly places, but places where she wanted to always visit. Then I arranged for all her friends and family to join us for dinner (something she had always wanted to do) without her even knowing. Then I arranged a party for her when she thought all her friends and family where just going home.
I did spend a lot of money on that day but the price was insignificant, coz I planned a whole day of doing things she wanted!
