because I have met amp personally he's the only one on the board that I actually know of that went to the gulf war.

I know there are others though that I'm not aware of .

craziest war story was from my grandpa who fought in WW2 only story he told was that his platoon or watever was all sniped when they were crossing into Poland expect him he was onyl shot in the hip,

the Germans came up and he played dead as they kicked him a couple times.

it was bad shit bro... no matter what I say, some people will always doubt it and think it was a vacation.... some days were better than others, but in general, it was not anything I'd wish on anyone.

One of the worst few days of it all was being on drug duty. When they gave us that untested experimental shit that was supposed to counteract nerve agent if Saddam had used it, and twice a day I had to go around with my counterpart to all of our sub units and make sure they fucking took the shit.... a few guys had to be forced to take it at gunpoint while crying like bitches.

I saw grown men shit themselves and breakdown and cry everytime we had a chem alert. Our own guys trying to kill each other from frustration, tension, and anxiety. I took part in some of that too.... tried to kill my motor sergeant with a pick axe one day and was full contact tackled by the rest of the motor pool.

It was not a vacation over there. It sucked major ass.

I was there for Desert Shield and Desert Storm and would be there again if my career had not been ended during Desert Storm. Outside of being injured the fucking heat was the worse part for me.

We have been through this before, but non the less I was with the first contigent from the 82nd Airborne sent in after the invasion of Kuwaite, so I was there from the beginning to the end and was injured on the 2nd day after the ground war started.

Still makes no sense. Air to air missles like side winders are inert untill armed and fired by the pilot. They don't drop like bombs. Once there is a lock on another air craft they are fired not droped. They are small missles not bombs. The only way they would be "droped" is if they were jettisoned in an emergency situation. I don't see a flight of jets flying along jettisoning aim-9 side winders over even what may be mistakinly seen as an enemy target as they are not intended as air to surface munitions and are basically usless in that situation unless you are hoping one lands on someones head or something.

Not trying to slag you or that I doubt you but perhaps you have the name of the munition in question wrong.

well, like I said... I really don't know the answer to this... I never cared enough to dig into it. But What I do know is that they had the shit retrofitted somehow onto Apaches, and they fucked up somehow and dropped the shit on us. Then they spent the rest of the day about 400 yards out from us sitting on the ground explaining what the fuck just happened to someone who, I'm certain, ripped them a new ass. Far as I know, the shit ain't supposed to be on Apache helicopters either... but they were.

As motor pool, not only were we responsible for making sure everything was running all the time and getting people unstuck from the sand... but we also got tagged with scavenger duty... running into Iraq ripping parts from tanks and busses and shit... draining battery acid.... that kinda crap... on top of being in charge of NBC and bomb squad duty.

No worries I was just confused on the whole sidewinder issue and the Air Force which moved to Apaches which are army etc. No offense intended. I have respect for all our service members and all vets as well.

yeah, it was a major fuckup on someone's part... I know people got reamed heavy over it... as they should have.

We also sort of lost our Major... fuck, I can't remember the guy's name.... but he basically went nuts. Started firing whole magazines at nothing.... yelling and trippin' out.... the guy went over the edge. He was relieved and we never saw him again.

crazy fucking shit over there man.....

a group of us stole a bus... drove it from Saudi into the Iraq desert until the wheels gave out.... that was to get out of those fucking barracks in Dahran which was blown up 2 days later with a friend of mine inside.

cannibalized parts from fried Iraqi vehicles with the corpes still gripping the steering wheels.... parts from smashed Hummvs, some with the blood and bodies of guys in my Delta unit.

Blew up tanks.... escaped a few that blew up minutes later.... scavenged Iraqi bunkers with crates of grenades and shit....

as motor pool, we pretty much had free reign to go anywhere we needed to go.... we'd load up the 5 ton wrecker with nightvision, gps, MREs, water, and as much ammo as we could carry and just fucking drive man....

it was fucking insane.
